Creating A Freelancer Multiplayer Server
-
Is there a guide that shows how to setup a server anywhere on this site ? Sorry if it’s there but I can’t seem to find it.
What I have gathered is you need an operator like FLHook to run the server and mod manager to apply mods. I’m just wondering if someone has a guide somewhere.
I have downloaded DS Account Manager but I’m not sure If I can run this with FLHook or do each of these programs run on their own.
If someone could help me out or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.
I have a gaming community with close to 1000 people in it and most of us are waiting on Star Citizen to come out and someone suggested we set up a Freelancer Server to pass the time so I’m looking around for some info

Even dunno. Look at documentation of original Freelancer CD - very detailed server setup btw.

Regrettably our search engine only finds this post. None of the old ones.
I got some help to set up 3 FL versions on a single physical server some time ago, that worked very well, and I wrote that up too but it’s gone.
I used Ioncross Server Operator and that was fine, I didn’t need the FLHook nice bits though.
Velly Solly!

The easiest option would be downloading Freelancer Discovery mod - it has FLHook builtin and everything set up.
To manage player accounts you may want to use the DSAM (http://forge.the-starport.net/projects/dsam/files) or my rewrite of it (http://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=98776 , it’s beta and may have bugs which you can report to me but that version is faster).

It’s a bit annoying, but …
#1
To run a server you do NOT need FlHook
This is basically a server side extension, which
gives additional (modding) features and
needs some setup (while there is no ready package
you can easily add atm afaik)#2
To run a server you do NOT need the FreelancerModManager
This one you only need to add modifications.#3
The DS Account Manager is a tool for server administration
which is pretty specific aiming @ the Discovery mod.
I d personally use the IONCROSS server operator
for server side administration, cause it’s pretty simple.
Anyway I did NOT use it to keep the server up and running.#4
To keep the server up + running I d use the
DS [d]Account [/d] Proc Manager.
This one is pretty simple, self explaining and stable
and the only one you really need, if you don’t want to fool with your player data.#5
Be sure to update your server to ver. 1.1#6
Use WinXP (or older server OS).#7
To make your server show in the global server list,
you want to add the Global Server Workaround. And if you want to start a modded server, I d guess your
plainest choice would be to use the Discovery pack as suggested before.PS.
#4 needs to be DS Proc Manager (TY 4 correction FF) -
I’d recommend using the latest versions of DSAM and DSPM instead of whatever’s in the download area.
DSAM: http://forge.the-starport.net/projects/dsam/files
DSPM: http://forge.the-starport.net/projects/dspm/filesDSPM (DS Process Manager) is what you use to keep the server online, plus a few other goodies besides.
I do not recommend using Ioncross. It’s old, unsupported and full of quirks. DSAM+DSPM is a much, much better choice.
Finally, DON’T USE XP. It’s a dead OS. FLServer works extremely well on Windows 7/Windows Server 2008.

I think question is about creating FL Server - setting, forwarding ports, etc and only after it… managing
