What does A.S. year stands for?

Hi guys

What does A.S. stands for from Freelancer’s year 800 A.S.?

Just like

[ ( A.D. / C.E. ) Anno Domini / Common Era ]

and

[ ( B.C. / B.C.E. ) Before Christ / Before Common Era ].

After sol is the commonest I have seen.

after sleepership
after Sirius
have been suggested but it appears to be
after settlement (see posts below)

Pretty sure it’s After Settlement since they started counting when the Liberty touched ground, and not after leaving Sol.

In the German version they also translated it with n.S. which I would interpret as “nach Siedlung” (literally: after settlement).

Great info about this After Settlement year/era. I never knew about that after playing FL for 11 years.

So it is truly After Settlement just like Skotty. said in German and written by Chris Todd from the other thread because before I always thought that it is After Sol… LOL!

I’ll have to with FriendlyFire from the pure logic of the a sleeper ship (sublight would take centuries to reach the Dog Star (Sirius time lag there) so if I just woke up after that long I’d chuck the old calendar and start day one from the day the ship landed. A good take on this is David Weber’s “Honor Harrington” Sci-Fi book series. He started dating from the time the colony’s sleeper ship “Jayson” landed and called the dates from there “AL” for after Landing. In the books they say half the capitols of the colony words are called “Landing City” as well.

Was on a sleeper ship of own until recently you might say. No matter how old the post was it makes a point. Backstory = History. A wise person once said, “If you don’t know where you came from or how you got here how can you know where you are going?” (Sirius I hope).

Nah, on a more serious note, it’s good that it’s been necroposted, because this way, I could find that thread in 2019 without some massive digging.
