Looking for a guide to be my own admin on a server
-
Hallo allemaal,
I can start FLserver, give it a name, connect to it, create a character, flying around but at this moment I have no idea how to become an admin.
I googled a lot to find a guide how to do it but nothing (otherwise I wouldn’t be asking here).Who can point me to such a guide?
Thank you very much!
With kind regards/met vriendelijke groet, Ruud Baltissen

Really there’s not a lot to it.
1). Be honest
2). Be fair
3). Strive for justice and fight against favoritism and bias
This last one I achieved by not joining any clans/guilds, never engaging in PvP without mutual consent initiated by the other party, and never getting involved in clan politics. I acted as an arbitrator only at the request of the clans for mutual benefit.4). Never abuse your admin powers. In other words, if the rules apply to the herd, they apply to the shepherd as well. If you’re going to have an uber admin ship you never use it except for disciplinary purposes. If you can be seen and respected as an admin while ingame in a Starflier you’re successful.
Those are the most important points. If you’re looking at the mechanics of it all you need a website with a forum where you can advertise your server and provide a meeting place for the server members.
You need a server management program such as IFSO (very old school), FLAC (my choice for vanilla servers) or whatever it is they use for Discovery servers.
From there it’s up to you and your vision for the server.
I recommend getting the ServerOperator2 mod which allows you to apply some server side mods to make your vanilla server just a little bit more than it is out of the box.If you’re going to use IFSO btw, you’ll need an anti-cheat program as well. That’s why I use FLAC.
Also you’ll need to do some server side mods to cut down on the basic cheats/exploits that are most commonly known.
I hope that helps for a start.

Hallo Robocop,
I’m afraid it didn’t help at all. As said before, I haven’t any idea how to become an Admin. In other words: I have no idea how to get access to the server itself.
A real server has at least a console where you can log in as Admin. I haven’t even found that. OK, I found a console but one cannot enter text there. So my first question is: what should I do to be able to access the server and give commands in one or anther way?
Thank you!
Kind regards, Ruud Baltissen

Freelancer doesn’t have a console or admin commands. You need to install FLHook to get anything of the sort.

IONCROSS (way outdated)
FLAC (outdated but still very effective)and other console managers are available. FLAC allows you edit player files, manage accounts, provides anti-cheat features, allows you to chat ingame, etc.
I’m not sure exactly what features you’re looking for but if you check out FLAC at http://efs.proboards.com/ it should provide most of what you need to get started.
I used FLHook a long time ago when the choices were FLHook and FLShell but switched to FLAC for the anti-cheat features. FLHook of today is probably a much different animal from what I remember. I have no experience with it.

Soupman and I agreed to Eagle to carry on access the same way he set it up when he gave us control of FLAC. But you can still try it (with two players) to see if you like the interface and features. If you are fortunate enough to create a mod with enough players to sustain it then you would qualify for full access.

Soupman and I have relaxed the conditions required for full access. Simply follow the instructions here: http://efs.proboards.com/thread/813/gain-access
Please continue talk about FLAC over there so we don’t clutter the board here.
