What file/s do I need to edit in order to add a custom named audios AND custom audio files ? So that the game can recognize new audio files.
I will also include here of what software programs do you guys recommend or prefer to use to export and/or convert audio files for Freelancer’s audio requirements
Thank you.

Hello Wasabitoy (I keep reading your name as ‘Wasitaboy’ :D),
It might be a good idea to get Adoxa’s XML Project tool set. This will enable you to convert any of Freelancers composite files into easily editable .XML files, and back again into the proper Freelancer format. It also generates the hash codes, relieving you from the burden of having to do so.
Adoxa should correct me if and where I’m wrong.
The XML tools do not deal with the actual editing of audio (or image) files; you’ll have to do that separately. My choice for doing so is Adobe Audition, but only because I happen to have this program and I know how to operate it. Iirc in NPC’s WavePad there is a text-to-speech generator even in the free edition.
A complication in dealing with the audio files is that Freelancer uses an mp3-like audio compression, but wrapped in a .WAV file. I could create those on my old WinXP computer, but not anymore. Personally I decided to use uncompressed .WAV: Freelancer can handle those too, but your mod will be considerable larger. I don’t think that’s a problem though as today we possess much bigger data storaga capacities then when FL was released.

A nice little program called Audiacity can even take a raw .riff exported from the URF export (I tells you it’s making a W.A.G. but always put it up for editing and\or export to wav easily. Had sone great audio filters and fx too.
