Framerate Randomly Locks at 25
-
This is such a bizarre issue. The game seems to be responding to my V-Sync enabled in the Nvidia control panel, sitting comfortably at 143-144 FPS, and with seemingly no instigation (just sitting planetside or sitting still in space) the game will decide to run at exactly 25 FPS and stay there until I Alt-Tab out and back in. It’ll then run just fine until after a minute or so it decides to run at 25 again. However, this CAN also be triggered by cutscenes (launching into space) or even looking at a lot of lighting effects.
My game isn’t being scaled in the Nvidia control panel either, so it’s 4:3 with black bars. The version is 1.0, and I am on Windows 10. Any ideas why this could be happening?
EDIT: Disabling G-Sync does fix the random lock up at 25 FPS, but the problem is 165 FPS does NOT feel smooth and seems to hitch and micro stutter constantly, with or without V-Sync. I’ve had this problem for a very long time, and the only way I can get NO G-Sync to be even close to tolerable is to limit the FPS in Nvidia Inspector, but that does not get rid of the stutter like G-Sync does. Am I just boned? I either have to decide between the game forcing me to Alt-Tab to have a playable FPS every minute, or stutters that make me motion sick.
Thanks for the help!

Did you try applying the 1.1 patch or JFLP? Other than that, I can’t help you.

This is a modified version of the 1.1 EXE which should fix the 25 fps issue. If you still find the need to limit the game’s FPS (which is very likely), I’d recommend using an external tool.

For those of us who understand hex editing: here’s the patch (using adoxas tool BwDiff
Freelancer.exe 158A14 D9 1D 0C 0A 61 00 -> 90 90 90 90 90 90 = prevent FL from reducing framerate to 25 in some instances (still need to manually limit framerate using external tool) ~FriendlyFire

Holy Moses… folks
I sometimes do live-streaming (Twitch) and found a hilarious bug in Freelancer. As long as the Streaming-Software (OBS-Studio) is running (doesn´t have to be broadcasting at all) the ingame-refresh-rate is rock-solid at 60 FPS (I caped them via hacks) But when its turned OFF, i have those “random” drops to ~50 FPS (after a minute or so regardless of being in space or sitting on a base) and they stay down there… God only knows why !!!
Is there anybody out there who´s able to tell me the answer to THIS
Greetings J.R.
Edit 1:
Tested a couple of tweaks already: It doesn´t seem to make a difference if the FPS-limit is set to a higher rate… the drop to ~50 FPS remains. V-sync ON or OFF… even removing the hacks or applying the “fix” mentioned above doesn´t make ANY difference. Fact: As long as OBS-Studio is running, the frame-rate doesn´t drop at all. Without OBS the issue is imminent after ~30-50 Sec…Edit 2:
Same effect appears when using RTSS and “limit” the FPS for Freelancer to 60 in the “RivaTuner Statistics Server”. NO FPS-drops… This is getting more and more odd…
