Freelancer patch page
-
Huhu,
I just wrote this very easy and small html page, http://www.freelancer-patch.de.vu, to advertise the GLS Workaround, I may advertise other MP fixes there too. I used all my knowledge about SEO, but since google/etc. dont update immedality, we will see if it worked. (Domain, Meta tags)
The site is still alpha status and I will rewrite it later, but I think that it is important that we have some kind of patch page to which newbies find via google (will see in a few hours how good it works with the SEO)
€: (Ok, my mistake, I assumed that google would list pages automatically, but what I have to do to get my site listed there?)
PS: W0dk4, could I use the same bg image for the page that you use for homepage of http://freelancerserver.de ?
(Of course I would host the image on another webspace ;))We just need a page which will catch up the googleing FL newbies.
-
Heh, you also try to make some cash out of it?
Loaded it and imediatly some sort of popup came out.
If I was a newby and was trying to find some sort of way to get connected to a FL server i sure as hell wouldn’t try the links posted on that page, just because it looks like some advertisement company tries to make advantage out of it.But thats just me.
-
It is just my current webspace, but if everything works fine I will change it tomorrow.
So this adverts should vanish then.€: Ok, added the URL in google, so in the next update it should be found there.
-
-
Nope, it is the old webspace. Haven’t redirected the old domain till yet ;D
But will do today. However, I am going to rent a COM-Domain, FF could you help me with the SEO etc. stuff? WE HAVE TO create a page that catch up many newbies, and if we manage to get such a page to result #1 we have a good chance to do so.
(Could you add me in an Instant Messenger for better coordination?) -
If you want, but I’ll still point out that I have little SEO experience and that you have little to no chance to get high in rankings with a concept like you have. I don’t want to sound mean, but for the most part search engines value pages with content and a lot of backlinks from already high pages. On top of that, the other criteria - page hits from Google itself - will be very low; people will only visit your page once and then move on to what it links.
Considering that, we might as well try to promote Starport directly and get that site backlinked. The issue is that sites such as Freelancer’s official page or IGN couldn’t care less about a 6-year-old game. It doesn’t give them a lot of cash, if any.
-
Not sure about, but what if the search therm is included in the domain? Wouldn’t this result in a high relevance? (Which isn’t unimportant too, if I am not mistaken it is even more important than rankings.)
PS: Redirected to http://freelancer-reborn.de/freelancerpatch/freelancerpatch.html
(+ updated the page a bit) -
It will HELP, that’s sure, but it won’t make it rise all that much.
Picture this: I want to make a 2-story building taller than the Eiffel tower. By piling up two 15m ladders on top of the building, I do get closer to being taller than the tower, but I still have a REALLY long way to go.
That’s what you are trying to do. You’re fighting against extremely large and long-running sites that have been in the records for years, and all you have to offer is a small page with little content…
-
Well, some backlinkings ideas are:
(of course FLCN)
Wikipedia? (I hope it won’t get deleted)
Trying to get the page into online articles of game magazines (for instance, 4players.de (german))
Forum postings (yep, that could work and help much) at many different boards - I (and my little nerd in icq xD ^^) assume, that the ranking don’t vary from homepage to forum (same website), so it would be rather easy. If the calculation is correct.Just my few ideas, but they might help to increase the SEO.
-
FLCN will drag you down. Wikipedia gets deleted within approximately 20 minutes (trust me, I’ve tried updating the page about the closure of the GLS and they said Wikipedia was “not a game guide”). Getting into magazines and webzines, good luck. I know many tried and little to nobody succeeded. Still, if you can make it through, remember to mention SP As for forums, I guess, but that requires a lot of time and luck…
-
Well, I got a other nice idea: We could combine FreeLancer advertising with the Still alive video, patch page + patch info, community links. So - As soon as SA video is finished, I can start such a advert campaign tour ;D
-
Just want to ask you - Here I have an alternative style for the page:
http://bas-i-am.de.vu/
(yeah, first homepage with uber HTML skills ;D)
Do you like the old style more or should I change to new one (<- personal HP style)I also used SWAT and HC as download mirrors, if this isn’t OK I will remove them immedality
(Same goes for the links at my personal home- and the patch page)
I am also going to get the COM-domain soon, after I finished some other work.
I don’t know if and how much this page could help FL but I think it is worth a try and the effort of 20€
-
No reply regarding the style?
However, I just added some info for vista users and contact information.
-
what kind of reply do you want concering your style?
I give you feedback if you want - but please don’t understand it wrong
-
Why are there two frames and one of this is only “Bas I Am!”
-
Your CV is left aligned - the lower part centered - after my humble opinion - this doesn’t fit - either you decide to separate it somehow different
-
The blog link ends in the nirvana
-
The font and color usage is quite OK
-
Are those quotes from you - otherwise i am missing the author
Well for your first trials with web design you made it not that bad. I have seen far worst sites klickibunti

-
Well, I wanted a reply regarding to the FL Patch Page (http://freelancer-reborn.de/freelancerpatch/freelancerpatch.html), not for my personal HP ^^
But still ty
(I wanted feedback for the style which I used for my personal HP, and if I should use it for the FL Patch Page too ;))Why are there two frames and one of this is only “Bas I Am!”
Frames are caused by the .de.vu Domain, since it is a free domain. It is because of the service.
(You can check the original page here: http://freelancer-reborn.de/user/bas/basiam/BasIAm.html)Your CV is left aligned - the lower part centered - after my humble opinion - this doesn’t fit - either you decide to separate it somehow different
Sry, but CV stands for?
The blog link ends in the nirvana Wink
Yep, blog isn’t installed yet. ^^
Are those quotes from you - otherwise i am missing the author Wink
Yep, as you can see under them stands my name (Sebastian Eckert)

Guess I will (finally !) rent the COM-domain in a few days (for only 7€/year, DE Domains 5€/7€ per year, if you want to know my source just ask :P)
But I might need a volunteer for the SEO, is here some one who want to answer my call? ;D
