Constructive criticism is good, sabotage is bad

Why don’t we just create a mod on ModDB, changing just one thing in Freelancer, such as, ermm I don’t know, say the SDK or something along those lines, technically it is a mod, and if we all voted for it, we could get it into the ModDB top 100. IDK just giving an idea of what we could do.
And I like the sound of Mod Spotlight. -
The Idea was thrown around when we discussed a SP Newsletter idea.
I loved the idea then to be honest, so it gets my vote.
-
YUP - 'spotlight’ gets my vote 2. ;D
-
Agreed. Spotlight = money shot ;D
-
Didn’t expect such an overwhelmingly positive reply to the idea of a mod spotlight feature ;D
I’ll draft up a post about it so a proper discussion can start on the subject without hijacking other threads…

Just want to reply something to OPs posting:
Edit: Oh and the MOTY rules say that votes are getting checked and fake votes get removed (just in case that someone is doing fake votes)
I personally suggest to mail the MOD DB team that they should check that - And fake votes are especially ones created by muli-accounts, ask them about comparing the IPs and mail adresses registered with.
-
MOTY votes are different from scores, unfortunately. With MOTY you can only vote “for” something; you can’t rate it badly. I doubt they’ll check the scores, which is what the problem currently is here.
-
I seriously would wait
the down rating seem to have stopped and we are close to the end of the MOTY voting which means that the moddb stuff has more than enough to do atmFL had thousands of visitors every day and checking all users if they visited FL and the FL mods and then compare their IPs together with all votes takes ages
I suggest to concentrate on the more important stuff first… the MOTYand we should not forget that we dont know if those low votes were done by fake accounts or if that were legit votes by people which simply have a problem with us or FL
maybe our special friends from that other old FL community which caused troubles in the past (not saying the name now) decided to vote… maybe some ppl from that german FL server that hosted NSU are pissed at us coz their server was closed… maybe other people which dont even play FL anymore suddenly remembered a bad experience… maybe something else…there are thousands of possibilities but if everyone which got a bad vote would run to the moddb staff then those guys would need to work day and night, 7 days a week to hunt jerks which give bad but legit votes.
Not to forget that the more attention you give to jerks the more trouble they will cause in future.Lets observe the situation and do something to attract more players to play our mods. If more crap votes happen then we still can contact the moddb staff and then we can clearly say that somebody is sabotaging the FL community.
-
OPR8R makes some very good points.
Lets see how it all plays out. If it seems indeed that the ‘negative’ voting has died out, lets leave it. However, if it kicks up again we can re evaluate the situation.
The last thing you want to do is give FL a bad name when we are fighting for our survival. Although it wouldnt be any of us directly giving it a bad name, if we start complaining too much, fighting back and causing more trouble it will end up a flame war with terrible results.
-
… that’s true.
I also think we shouldn’t bug the moddb staff atm.Besides i d use my all new moddb account 2 vote a “10” on some of the mods.
(what was really hard 4 me, so there was no “13” i could vote 4 WTS)
;DAnd anyway
- better bad PR, than none
and at least there was some action
in the Freelancer section.

“Spotlight” is the best idea
It has nothing to do with a contest, so nobody can feel as a looser or what ever.
It’s has my voteOwh, and it has also the vote from Predator
@Bas:
ask them about comparing the IPs and mail adresses registered with.
What if people share the internetline? This is something you can’t check. Or they must also can see the macadres

This sort of thing always happens with an open and anonymous voting system. Check out IMDB to see the horrors of it. There are many who are to lazy to actually assess anything, so they become binary voters: any vote they cast is either a 1 (or 0 depending on structure) or a 10. Voting this way is not beneficial for anyone, but that’s the side effect of anonymity.
-
Today is the last day for voting
-
Ya, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for FW:ToW and CF….and toes, too!
-
I made sure I cast my final votes.
I wish both Mods the best of luck.
