Sorted. Thank you.

I had long time idea and wish to see Freelancer episodes, I would advise if you plan to make something like that, you could use actual storys of multiplayer going on clans with wars and so on , you can get some pretty nice storys and would make freelancer more attractive. Or perhaps to make freelancer episodes where players could find themself for example ( pirates, hunters, navy fighters, police, tradersā¦.)

Is this a disco exclusiveā¦ by anychance?

If we do something like this, we would certainly want to at least start off as close to the vanilla as possible to keep the original freelancer fanbase excited.
How about attracting new people? The current fanbase is allready excited, because to be honest the current players or community members are mostly addicted Freelancer players.
My suggestion is atleast to add the Mirosoft Fansite Link somewhere in your promo text, and maybe a small āPeak Previewā (maybe 1 min or 30 secs) to other mod flavours? There are some REALY nice ones around. Ofcourse you can put the main focus on Disco and Vanilla, but FL has so much more to offer than just those 2.Ofcourse we can provide some sort of promo on our site, even on the FLCN (the nice cute bar on the top of this site what is loaded on most community and servers from Freelancer)
Just my 2 cents.

Nice
We will support all the way we can.
I know this will never be released in ANY modā¦ but for me this is the most beautiful thing i have ever seen in FL movies and the possible things what can be done in FL.
Great aplaud to Why485 (aka frank)Even if you never heard or saw FL your start to shake a bit when you see this.

Yeah itās gorgeousā¦ hence my trying to get into contact with himā¦ which seems to be close to impossible.
Patience, have patience, he knows about this thread.
He has a realy busy real life, and his time is limited at this moment. But he has taken notice of this thread. -
I apologize for not replying earlier.
I read through the little teaser script thingie, and I have to say. Iām already excited. I already have ideas bouncing around my head on how to visualize and animate those scenes. However I just donāt have the time anymore to dedicate to such projects. Hand on heart, I would love to do this for you. Iām already excited to do the first shot.
However CGI is a very time consuming task. That colony ship video took an entire weekend of nonstop work. Iām talking from Friday night to Monday morning of round the clock work to get done. I effectively put my life on hold in order to get that done in time. Every single hour of the day I was doing something on it, be it modeling, animating, rendering, or compositing. (I slept during rendering times in case you are wondering when I slept.)
I am very sorry. However, I will tell you this. By pure chance, I have been touching on something very similar to what you describe your first shot as.

I know I wanted to stay out of the community affairs for a while but I was told to take a look at this one
I am sorry to say it but I think this is one of the worst ideas ive seen in the past months.
A TV series?
Lets stay realisticā¦ every 2nd Scifi TV series gets canceled after just a few episodesā¦ even the successful ones get canceled without warning just to get replaced by a show or a mystery series. Not to mention that the requirements to even be able to produce a pilot movie are that high that we can not even think about such a possibility. It requires a VERY BIG fan communityā¦ It requires good characters and a good story (and FL does not even get close to that).
A cheap fly by teaser showing a few ships is something you can see everywhere on the netā¦ there are thousands of such triesā¦ and all failed.
So tell me how FL should ever get a chance with its very small player community while series such as Firefly with its incredible story and concept and its thousands, tenthousands, hundredthousands of fans dont get a chance to go on?What has FL to offer?
Story?.. barely
good characters?.. cmonā¦ not really
And a TV series is living just because of the characters and not some fly by scenes.I am sorry that I again have to be the one again showing what the reality looks like.
So at this point usually comments like ābut we can try itāā¦ yes you canā¦ but the key word is ātryāYour creating high expectationsā¦ big hopesā¦ and everything is based on a āmightā, āmaybeā, ācouldāā¦ and if everything fails (which is very likely) the entire community or at least those which have put their hopes into this āillusionā will get demotivated and disappointed even more.
Its the same what ive seen in the FL community so many times beforeā¦ the incredible Openlancerā¦ the incredible Uberlancerā¦ the incredible āLets save FLā campaignā¦ the incredible spotlights (mod/story).
Maybe you dont notice such stuff anymoreā¦ fast spoken wordsā¦ incredible unrealistic plans without any idea how they can get realized and the players all around those projects which suffer when finally that project fails because they have put all their hopes into it.I also think that you have not a single chance that microsoft gives an OKā¦ afterall Microsoft has canceled all the support for FL, the original team working on lancer is gone (so nobody is there to observe the development of such an TV serie to ensure that it follows the lancer storyline), the fact that FL is nothing but a low budget game with a hand full of players and we also should not forget that Microsoft has done heavy changes considering their games and has done many structural changes in the past 1 1/2 years.
In the end all you have is a few ships and maybe a few combat scenesā¦ no charactersā¦ no story (and reading through the script I even doubt that it really follows the lancer story)ā¦ nothing that would really impress something.
You dont even have someone being able to produce such a teaser.
All you have is a fanfiction storyā¦ not moreā¦ not less.Feel free to ignore my wordsā¦ the FL community has done this in the past often enough and paid the prizeā¦ Ill be here again to remind you about my words when this project failed (and i always was right with what I said in the past).
-
if you own that company and if you are that an important person with such incredible skills what do you need us for?
seriously - you want to create something and you dont even have the neccessary resourcesā¦ if you would have them you wouldnt have had to ask why485.
Fine this is your dreamā¦ follow itā¦ but the FL community did follow so many dreams and always got disappointedā¦ maybe the FL community finally should concentrate on the important things before it has to realize that their dreams are exactly what the word isā¦ just dreams and the FL does not exist anymore because resources were wasted again.
How many projects in the FL community have been started this way?.. how many of those projects are still unfinished?.. how many of these unfinished projects did we forget/ignore because of new ideas and dreams?.. how many of the current projects do we have to cancel in order to get this dream running?Im a business manā¦ and one of the very first lessons I have learned was that I can only use the resources that I really have and that making small steps is better than rushing into a fantasy.

At some points i agree with OP here.
The FL community, including this site, has launched a LOT of ideas for improvements, marketing, movies, community involvements etc etc.
Most of those projects, whitch i wonāt name, failed or stalled half way or didnāt even come of the drawing board.
Also the launching of multiple community sites with 4 members who host those ideas arenāt helping as well.It is good to live to your fantasies, I know because I do it every time.
Yes i do business my self as well, but to be honest, i donāt think i would invest large amounts of money into a project like this.IF your realy dedicated, and if your realy are willing to spend time and resources to a project like this we can support you in all ways we can.
I also agree with OP here that launching ideas like this, giving the remaining community players false hope, will eventualy damage the community.I would also like to ask OP to give this project a chance, a Dutch saying sais āIf you donāt shoot you allways fail to hit your targetā

I strongly disagree.
Look, like 2-3 years ago, I was thinking FL is dying and it wont be long till the last servers close or are empty. I also didnt believe there could still be large mods in development at this point in time.
Also, I didnt think any new server would have any chance to get new players.Look where we are now.
Crossfire 1.8, Discovery 4.85, Shattered Worlds: War Torn and Freeworlds: Tides of War
are all in serious development and look breathtaking. It seems like real FL modding has just begun.
And the player numbers still do not suggest that FL will die in the next 1, 2 or even 3 years. So dont tell me about wasted efforts and whatnot. Sure, Return to Earth, Uberlancer, Openlancer etc. etc. failed, so what?
Its not the failed projects that count in a community, its the success we have and had that counts. So my opinion: Go for it. If you fail, it was a valuable experience nonetheless.
And as far as the fl community should participate: I think its everyones own business to decide that. -
Iām siding with w0dk4 here. Sure, itās impossible to fail if you never try, but then most mods would never have been started out of fear of it crashing, all utilities would not be there because thereās a small chance they might have been hated and dissedā¦
Oh and, Freelancer would probably have been cancelled a thousand times already. If thereās one thing thatās had a shaky and unsure dev cycle, itās the very game weāre trying to protect and build up. It still got out, not?
I know things look bleak, I know some projects are just dreams, but we canāt just sit there and do nothing but stuff we are 100% sure will work. Iāll point out at the start, Starport was about 99,5% sure to FAIL UTTERLY. And it did for months, but we kept going.
Where are we now?

I apologize for the inconvenience.
This will be my last post on this forum.
I had no desire to usurp any resources, merely to find a talented fellow and give him a shot at doing this full time.
The only reason I posted here (or on the disco forums for that matter) was to give a community that loves the same thing that I love a chance to speak their minds before I go ahead with the project.
I am no ābig shotā. Please accept my humblest apologies if I came across that way.
Good luck with your future endeavors.
Andrew.

Oh uhh
Donāt you start running away!!! ???
We just started this convo, and seeing your last post it looks like you havenāt met the FL community yet.Its not hostile, its just being woried thats all. And since this is a free posting platform people are allowed to express their opinions.
Only 3 or 4 people posted here. And TBH i would gladly stay updated on this project, and with me hundreds of people more.
Contructive critisism is good, and people posting their concerns is as well, makes you look at things different. -
my intention is not to destroy your dreamā¦ my intention was to protect the community from false hopes
and lets be honestā¦ to create a mod and to create TV series is a big difference
this arguement came from w0dk4 and FF
yes we modders and coders also had our dreams and still have themā¦ but the difference is that we realize them and create our work before we present it to the communityā¦ the PR work starts when the stuff is almost finished and showing the final result which does not leave open much room for speculation if its going to be good or notwe also should not forget that we act in different time frames hereā¦
ignoring some extreme examples (like CF where I (mainly) work alone on a 2gb mod) the creation of a halfway good mod does only time a few weeks and the time span to create a tool is usually not much biggerTo create a TV show you can expect that the FL community would spend months to get the teaser workingā¦ then it would take ages before we would get an OK from Microsoft (assuming they would even care)ā¦ then you need to find a producerā¦ you need to find a castā¦ you need to find professional story writersā¦ the casting startsā¦ and finally you spend months with the production of the show
In the end before you can see something on TV you have spend about 2 yearsā¦ which is a careful guess.
Considering the current situation in the FL community I really doubt that FL will have enough players and community in 2 years which really can benefit from it.IF you want to create such projects then you also have to look at the less shiny factsā¦ and not only on the highlights.

Enough is enough.
