Connecting to servers

every time i try and open flmm it says ‘access to freelancer.ini is denied’
Disable Options->“Ensure new FLLIstserver will be used”
(btw it is just a warning, you can still open the FLMM ^^)And yes, you have to uninstall nortal totally. (You can try deinstalling network software of it only, but not sure about if FL would work then)
oh great and to top it all off while trying to figure this stuff out its deleted all my save games! Sad
It moved the savegames, but didnt delete them. See your My Document\My Games\Freelancer folder.

Maybe you have something on this one.

ok i bit the bullet after deciding whether or not to get rid of norton.
now that ive done it im having other problems lol. it seems now i cant get the servers to show up in the list again.
ive uninstalled everything fl related. installed fl, updated, installed quick fix, and activated fllistserver mod and yet still nothing. constantly getting a box saying access denied to freelancer.ini. ive even tried going into the file myself and changing the hostname but it wont let me save it as an .ini file.
edit: dunno if it matters, but it wont let me deactivate the fllistserver mod thru flmm, saying that there is no backup file. never had this problem when i did it the first time round?
any ideas guys?

This looks like you had FLMM activated or something and it screwed up.
You might need to reinstall FL again, uninstalling FLMM in the process too.
As for trying to edit freelancer.ini, check if the file is read-only (right click -> Properties, it’s one of the checkboxes at the bottom). That also may help for FL itself, although I’d be surprised.

Disable the feature of FLMM “ensure that the new Listserver will be used”, deactivate all mods and try again to modify the file (maybe you want to “restore FLMM backups” first)

ok im sorry guys i must be becoming a real pain in the backside now but i appreciate the help.
ive managed to get the server list showing again, but still getting the same problem saying i cant connect. ive uninstalled norton and now have avg on. ive unblocked the 2300 port on windows firewall so not sure whats going wrong now?
cheers

Try unblocking ports 2300 to 2400, not just 2300. You may also want to try unblocking 47624 and 6073, as they also are used by DirectPlay, which FL runs on.
AVG has been known to cause a LOT of headaches with Freelancer. I’d suggest Avira Antivir, which is free; I’ve never had any issue with it running Freelancer.
-
Most firewalls allow to open a port range, which is more adequate.
If you really need a firewall, I suggest you try something else than the Windows Firewall, which is utter crap. ZoneAlarm, Sunbelt Personal Firewall and Comodo Firewall are three free ones that I’ve known to be good for the most part, although I use none personally.

ok ill have a gander. ive given it a go while ive had windows firewall turned off and it still wont go in so im assuming its nothing to do with that…
although i just uninstalled avg so no anti virus at minute but still dont work, havent rebooted yet tho so may still be files on pc

Glad to hear you’ve sorted it

Am trying to connect to a server atm but have encountered a problem while trying to use the fldiredtip way its in html and i have zero idea were to place the ip and port number any help please.

This feature allows you to connect to a Freelancer server without having to connect to the global server.
This is useful for when the server admin does not want to advertise the server to the rest of the Internet,
or when the global server is down.To add an IP address and port to the list: enter the address and port below, then click the “Add Server” button.
Once you have entered all of the IP addresses you want, click the “Launch Freelancer” button.
| IP Address: | |
| Port: | |Command line: Freelancer.exe
The text above is what am trying to put the IP addy and Port number to any pointers please
