Freelancer working with Wine 1.1.20
-
@tai:
I know what it is:
You just take a normal windows .dll file out of the win/system32 dir and use it with wine
Often it solves Problems, but also creates new ones. Sometimes it works with one version, with another not!
And where to take “true” win32 dlls for wine ? 8 [ ]
I was using winetricks script than dependency walker to find missing dlls… -
I’m very interested in this solution guys, hope you can find a working method soon.

It’s no problem to get the Game working, it is an problem to get the Server working, so if you don’t need the server it works!
FLServer prints a hell of messages into my terminal when I open it, so it’s very likely that there is some Bug in Wine.
I also applied to be an Application Maintainer for Freelancer, so I can edit the Freelancer Pages.

Yep, its true.

@HeIIoween:
Khmm … Ok! I thought there same dlls as well as windows xp for example.
They are the same ones, that is just a site where you can get your missing dlls from.
I experimented with FLServer some time now and noticed that if I use the global server from crazy I can see the server there, but I can’t connect, not via LAN or INTERNET. I know that I always had that problem on windows, too. But I just don’t know the solution now!Help is appreciated.

May this thing help? http://dplay-masq.sourceforge.net/faq.html
Can I use this thing to run a DirectPlay server?
You sure can! As of version 0.2.00 you can use the “host=www.xxx.yyy.zzz” command when insmod’ing the module to specify a local host to use as a server. Any incoming DirectPlay connection attempts will be forwarded to this host. Future versions will hopefully include dynamic host lookups by hostname, as well as the ability to change the host without having to remove the module and re-insmod’ing it. I’ve tested this functionality with three external (Internet) clients connecting to my local host and it worked fine. However, any clients on your LAN that are ALSO connected to the same game host will not properly communicate with clients connected from the Internet. See the Known Bugs section of the README for more information about this problem. Finally, be aware of the inherent limitation in the DirectPlay protocal that only ONE host behind your masquerade server is supported at a time. Other computers may act as clients to games on the Internet at the same time, but only one local computer can host a game at a time. This is inherent to the fact that the server port can NOT be specified by clients connecting to your game, and every incoming connection will always hit the same port.

Sorry, haven’t read the whole thread, is FL Server (!) working with linux now?
-
Here is a tutorial written for linux NOOOOOOBS heh. Â This will fix the XML text issue as well. Â
.http://freelancercommunity.net/viewtopic.php?p=2466#2466
Flserver will run but haven’t successfully tested it.
BTW. Happy flying! Â -
@tai:
… XML-Issue is fixed with newest wine version!
If this works, I’ll post it as HOWTO on the Freelancer-Wine page. Maybe that will get some players to play Freelancer again.
btw it was me that brought you towards doing this xD you remember?
It was never broken. Â When you can just use winetricks and install all the XML packages. Â I’ve already posted links on the Freelancer-Wine page. And in the Wine Forums… and LinuxGaming forums. Â

@tai:
I’ve seen that, but with wine 1.1.20 you didn’t had to install anything for XML!
I’ll create an HOWTO on the AppDB Page today, if you have anything to add there, tell me.Have you tested FLServer? Is it working?
Dude…. this is for noobs. That only know how to install the wine version from the Synaptic Package manager… and don’t know how to troubleshoot when installing the new version makes other things stop functioning.
And the latest wine breaks some games. Like Half Life 2 and doom 3.
I’m super happy you know how to run linux like a champ as do I. Â BUT THIS ISN’T FOR YOU AND I. Its for Winuser Linoob. Read the disclaimer at the top of the tutorial. Â
FLserver was operational with no reported errors. And showed up in the list, through xfire, and all that jazz. Â However we couldn’t get anyone to connect. Most likely had to do with a ports issue. I think my crappily DSL company denies traffic through certain ports. Â Because even when I open them on my end, they still appear to be closed with a port scan from a remote location. But in my experience… windows games servers run through wine, even if you can get it to function properly, are laggy and unreliable. Â So I’m of the opinion: What’s the point?
BTW…

btw it was me that brought you towards doing this xD you remember?
It had nothing to do with you. Â

@tai:
I’ve seen that, but with wine 1.1.20 you didn’t had to install anything for XML!
This is not true. In fact I just discovered it breaks XML. Â Also, multiple graphical errors crop up using this 1.1.20 BETA version of wine. Â
BEFORE 1.1.20 BETA

http://i44.tinypic.com/15fhmwo.pngBut yeah, thank for bringing us all of your wonderful insight. Â You know, I honestly couldn’t have broken freelancer without you. That I CAN give you credit for bringing me to. Â @tai:
