Few questions from a newby.

1. So does AVG have any problems with Freelancer?
2. I’ll check out the links you gave me but any tips would be helpful.
3. If it’s just the storyline you worryed out about, I have beat it twice. I just lost my save files and am starting over looking for something new.

Vista SP 2 does wonders.
-

Vista SP 2 does wonders.
It works amazingly… no need to spend hours going through my AntiVirus and Firewalls. No need to run as Admin.
Just start FL and off I go. ;D
-
yeah and avg is working with freelancer again miracles can happen.

The links that Syd gave me are rather confusing and I have no idea what I’m looking for. Is there an simpler way to get a new guy started on setting up the global severs?
BTW I beat Freelancer for the third time last night
-
Does www.freelancerpatch.com help you?
-
Well I can see the severs now but I can’t join then…
-
Upgrade Vista to SP2.
-
Before I even look into it, is it going to cost money?
-
What? Service Packs are free.

Free download from windows update, just did it yesterday or day before on the media-pc (though I am still planning to toss effing Vista in the trash and install XP pro ).
Your connect problems may also be due to not having the required mod installed. If the Freelancer version does not match, you won’t be able to join the server.
This section here on the board has some useful info for starting on Multi Player.
If you’ve beat the storyline, you know the controls well enough to dip into online play, though there are definitely differences versus other players and turning techniques, loadouts, etc. Which all vary with each mod installed. Â Personally, I liked visiting a different mod every couple weeks or months to keep things fresh and see what elements fit with my gaming style best. But anyhoo, people for some reason get scared of PVP when playing online. Ya just have to look at it like… ok it’s a game, it’s not like I’m getting kicked in the crotch when my ship explodes, each fight I’ll learn something and end up having more fun. And there really is no rush like a good PVP fight It gets the heart racing, adrenalin flowing, etc. Good stuff.

I’m downloading Vista SP2.
What you said about versions…I have noticed that in the corner of the main menu it says version 1.0. Should I have soemthing beyond that?
-
In the list of servers, some will have different versions than 1.0. You won’t be able to select them as they are incompatible with your version. You’d need to activate the proper mod to log on a server with a special version number.
-
Well Vista SP2 has done wonders, I can join servers now
I have another question though, can you move one character from server to server? Becuase I was playing for a while and then when everone left that sever I got bored and tryed a new one. When I went to the other server…I could use my old character. So do you just have to stick to one server?
-
Yup, characters are server-specific. The way FL handles char files also stores ship loadout, factions, and a few other things. These change from server to server, so it causes problems when things listed in your save do not exist on that server’s mod.
