Few questions from a newby.

I have a few questions about Freelancer and the like. First, I have heard things about Freelancer multiplayer and Vista not working together. Is it true? I’m I doomed because I use Vista? Second, if I am not doomed I need some help with multiplayer. I don’t really know how it works so any guids or the like would be helpful. Third, if multiplayer where to work, how far advanced should I get in the game before I try it out. (I lost my save file so I’m back to square one).
Thanks in advance.

1. you are not doomed because of using Vista
just run all Freelancer relateted programms as admin and in compatibility mode
And its very important which Antivirus you use.
with Norton, Kapersky, G Data or Mcafee for example you cant play Freelancer in Multiplayer
2. just install the workaroundpatch or the new global listserver. In fact its the same list, but another method to get the list.
www.fllistserver.com www.stats.freelancerserver.de
3. I recommend to play the Story befor you play online, for example to know the “Nomads” means.
But in fact is doesnt matter, i know a lot of ppl which never played the great story of Freelancer… -
1. So does AVG have any problems with Freelancer?
2. I’ll check out the links you gave me but any tips would be helpful.
3. If it’s just the storyline you worryed out about, I have beat it twice. I just lost my save files and am starting over looking for something new.

Theres Vista SP2? Damn, I thought I had the latest official Windows. (Maybe I’ll get my hands on that new W7 thingy :P)

Does www.freelancerpatch.com help you?

Free download from windows update, just did it yesterday or day before on the media-pc (though I am still planning to toss effing Vista in the trash and install XP pro ).
Your connect problems may also be due to not having the required mod installed. If the Freelancer version does not match, you won’t be able to join the server.
This section here on the board has some useful info for starting on Multi Player.
If you’ve beat the storyline, you know the controls well enough to dip into online play, though there are definitely differences versus other players and turning techniques, loadouts, etc. Which all vary with each mod installed. Â Personally, I liked visiting a different mod every couple weeks or months to keep things fresh and see what elements fit with my gaming style best. But anyhoo, people for some reason get scared of PVP when playing online. Ya just have to look at it like… ok it’s a game, it’s not like I’m getting kicked in the crotch when my ship explodes, each fight I’ll learn something and end up having more fun. And there really is no rush like a good PVP fight It gets the heart racing, adrenalin flowing, etc. Good stuff.

In the list of servers, some will have different versions than 1.0. You won’t be able to select them as they are incompatible with your version. You’d need to activate the proper mod to log on a server with a special version number.

Well Vista SP2 has done wonders, I can join servers now
I have another question though, can you move one character from server to server? Becuase I was playing for a while and then when everone left that sever I got bored and tryed a new one. When I went to the other server…I could use my old character. So do you just have to stick to one server?

Yup, characters are server-specific. The way FL handles char files also stores ship loadout, factions, and a few other things. These change from server to server, so it causes problems when things listed in your save do not exist on that server’s mod.
