FL bot

Most definately a cheat, i’d ban you in a heartbeat for trying to use something like that. Why not create a bot that flies and shoots for you as well? Mining is a feature of FL simple as that, you don’t need a bot to do all the work for you. Be thankful you don’t play EVE where it can take you days just mine an asteroid lol

As an X1-3 series player… i understand were he’s coming from…

Yes in FL and Eve its considered cheating but in X… its a way of life… lol…
Extensions on this idea could be a valuable asset…don’t shelve it too quick (like we used to treat the word “cloak” )
Given the right approach this could be used for “spawnable” Autodefence drones… and other such Automated "bot"s that FL is lacking and work well in other games… ( im thinking clans here more than players…)

I really see this as no different to the Auto mining feature in X2-3 guys…

I see what you’re saying as i play X3 as well but that’s the whole problem. Spawning of anything, especially servers that run FLAC for instance would get you banned as FLAC assumes you are spawning cargo and bans you. Not sure how Hook deals with spawn issues but i wouldn’t be surprised if that banned players for doing that as well.

Yes mining is boring, still part of the game though, so just get on with it lol. I know on my server if i try to mine, the npc’s run off with the loot if you’re not careful just for added variety so you have to be quick collecting it.

From the technical perspective, it’s hardly possible to be able to detect these flying rocks either from game logic or from onscreen picture.
And other parts of that aren’t really easy, too

If the mining thing is made, then the next will be a real auto turret system, then another auto something, and more and more auto!

Then we can easily end up like in the “good” old days with cloaked killers and other types of cheating morrons spoiling it for everyone else and if something like that should happen again it would probably mean complete death for Freelancer!

Something I would hate to see… Just my personal opinion!

I understand if that is your personal opinion, and I respect that, but please, please don’t try to stop this.
I think this should be made closed-source…
That way people wont just be able to take what we have and use it to make a different bot that does something different.

A few questions then…

1. If it’s made “closed source” who decides whom can have access to this project? Some MOD’s are very new and I have an upcomming one myself… Would this mean people like me can’t join such project simply because I’m not a well-known modder or server op!?

2. If it’s made available to all server ops then we’ll have problems with “fake server owners” wanting such code with the only intention to create cheats… Yes, such servers still exists.

3. How would you make such feature a serverside controlled feature only!? Personally I can’t see how this could be done without having to do client side modifications as well and then we have the problem… The morrons can have access to the code, modify it, grab it, exploit it… You can see where I’m going right?!

Think I’ll stop here for now as it should be pretty clear why this isn’t a good idea…

If not let me add something here… A feature like this would just mean a heavy amount of players “sleeping” or being AFK and while filling up possible player slots for those who actually wants to be active, they’re also creating unnecessary load on the server…

I can see the fun in making such feature, but it’s just not usable on an online server and besides if such feature was introduced you would also have to create more anti cheat code in order to counter morrons… So all in all a LOT of work for those who can’t bother doing things themselves!?

I’m afraid all sysops you ask to will tell you this is cheating.

As such, I can’t allow a discussion like this on these forums. You’re free to try figuring it out elsewhere, but not here. Like Legion, though, I seriously hope you don’t succeed. We don’t need more nearly undetectable means of cheating.

I suggest you try making not so controversial things instead, there are a LOT of possibilities with FLHook and client-side hooking; why not do something everyone would appreciate, you included?
