FL Hack

Since the new FL Hack version just got released yesterday it is VERY unlikely that it can be blamed for server crashes you have, except they REALLY started yesterday and not a week or so before.

It was more or less the earlier version I was talking about and not the present one as Bas mentioned. I know that I can be on my server for hours on end and nothing goes wrong. At times, others can be too but, I can see on the FLsever, that there will be a players trying to log on by either trying to change the version number or using the Hack then the server crashes. It restarts and records all who was on the server during the crash. If the few players on the server were there previously and nothing was happening to cause a crash then, it has to be someone trying to use the hack or a hack of some kind and trying to log on.
My server is set to detect cheats and it has records of hackers detected but, they can’t get on the server so, I’m not getting names or files, in the end, they must just delete their accounts when they leave because of the crash so they don’t get found. Idk, I’m not a hacker or a cheater. Never been accused of one nor, will I ever be.
If a server is empty, most of the time players go to one that has a few players on it to see if they know anyone there. If they don’t, they stay and play or just leave. If they’re just out to crash servers then, they delete their accounts and go to the next one or come back and do it again at a later date for shits and grins. Leave before they get banned in other words.
Idk, but I do know this, I’ve not had this problem until just recently and many players have left because of the crashes and my server is about to be shut down because of it. They’re getting tired of doing re-installs just to make sure they’re not the cause of the server crashing. I’m tired of re-installing the server to and making my players start over.
Ioncross is set to update players every 120 secs yet the server will show two players when only one may be on it. That other player is not visible and then the server crashes and that pisses-me-the-f-off. Even by updating players on line myself, that new player is not visible then, he’s gone after the server restarts like they don’t want to try to log back on of which myself or my regulars will.
You tell me.

should all server admins set up passwords now and lock out new players? or maybe we put the passwords into the server info where everybody can read it… type it in and crash the server.
destabilizing servers without that admins can do something against it

now that its released it will spreadnothing against your efforts adoxa but i recall that since day one after the FL release memory edits were supposed to be cheats
have you ever thought about the possibility that your tool and also other optional mods that have been released in the past month (and that are freely downloadable here) are considered cheats on various servers out there?Meanwhile the server admins have no say anymore on which tools and mods are being used on their own servers. It doesnt surprise that more and more admins have cheater problems and that normal players get upset and probably leave the game.
Yes - i know the features are meanwhile more imporantant than the security of servers… what a shame.

Na, I just meant that it might help in the case of HK. It is just a method to protect the server, I just wanted to note it, nothing more.

Yes I have in the past set up a password and it is being discussed again but, when players see servers with password, they just go by them and not worry about checking them out. I do.
I haven’t really advertised the server yet but it can be seen on the list. Even though the downloads are minimal, there are three times the downloads as there are players.
I did find out until early this morning that one of my players play on your server, the RJJDS server and if you have this patch/program in it, that may be one reason my server has crashed because of that player using the same freelancer files to play on my server too. Instead of having more than one FL directory. I know from experience that eve n after using the, ‘Restore Backups’ it doesn’t always work. I have different FL Directories myself. I give them the name of the mod instead of leaving them named Freelancer.
I’m thinking of leaving the Communities anyway. I don’t know how to mod very well and the person that was helping me quit Freelancer to play other games. I try and fail and am tired of trashing it and reinstalling it again to start over as well. I have Tools I don’t understand yet they seem easy to use. I just know how to run a server and handle players is all. I’ve done a good job of it and been commended for itand have admined other servers over the years but, at the way things are going now, it’s becoming too much for me anymore and I just wanted to help keep Freelancer going forever. 6 years I’ve played nothing but Freelancer and hundreds of mods and dozens of servers. 3 years running servers. Things have changed, players are too new and many have never played or even know the story and more want to cheat than learn so it’s becoming more of a hassle than a satisfaction for me. I have more hours in this game than 85% of the players out there if not more and I hate joining server where I got 30 + players trying to tell me how to play the damned game even though I’ve played it since May of 2003. And those are from players that can’t even answer my questions about the SP story line.
I try to read all and figure things out for myself because I hate to ask for help.
Players continue to jump from server to server without a clean reinstall by just deactivating the mod and activating a new one without know the ramifications it may cause another server. I have three servers here and one gaming machine and I get the same problems on each one of them so, it can’t be that I don’t know what I’m doing, it’s the players not knowing how to use their mod manager and their Freelancer installs.
I’ve also seen member join here and have never once seen those names on any server anywhere asking for this code and that code to manipulate this part that and it given freely then they are thankful and gone. It didn’t used to be like that. NO need to join the Private Admin area when you can get it off the public forums. Think about it. I thought that was the purpose for the Admins and Server Ops forums were for, to discuss these sorts of ideas and addition’s and if they’ll be good for usage on our server or your server or mine. That seems to have got thrown out of its own translation though.
I don’t care what anyone has or developed, as long as it doesn’t affect my server or forum without my knowledge or approval and/or hasn’t been included in my mod for use. it’s great to see the accomplishments being done to improve the game.

I got timed out but, in addition to, I’m not asking anyone to not to improve the game, just to be wary of who’s doing the asking for all these codes.
Freelancer is going to die if all the wrong people gain access to do nothing but destroy Freelancer.
Look at all the sites being hacked. that should say something.

… maybe about time for a client side anti-cheat solution,
which can block / kick / ban those fellows,
who did changes to their client. -
@F!R ive been thinking about that for ages wee allready have a client and i was going to add that to the client if the crc didtnt match and not the same ver close fl
but one problem i seen was to get the client on first
wee might be able to do it with hook not look into it yet
but wee allready had a few on crashing the server
and it seems they just been using the clients exe
i think the main reason it crashes wee dont have eny
original systems in so its prity bad when you get one onso even with this new version it dosent realy matter cos its nothing new its allready been happning long before its release

Embrace the new tech… or risk looking like a backward ninny set in its ways, I can safley say noone here watching/posting on this tread wants to make it easy for cheaters… There will be safegards eventualy… but with all new ideas and stuff… an experimental stage is at hand… freakin enjoy the ride & stop trying to point the “bad man” finger Adoxa’s way.
Im pretty shure anyone who’s “bothered” to play with the new stuff over the past few weeks will agree with me… I really dont wanna hear from anyone who has just read a post and flagged it as a cheat progy

::: Sory for the Abruptness of this post… but im getting the shits with nit pickers over this particular problem… I have ran the required tests myself… and its minimal compared to other problems we encounter… like field “looting” isues… I have more problems with the engclass dll flaging internal (ignorable) problems than anything Hack can throw at the server… wich is all mostly clientside anyways - so yes… I know what im talking about! :::

Dont know why you dont just use Lancers autoupdater program, it prevents more cheats than any other program around and FLHack doesnt work with it either because the AU simply wont allow it

Part 2 is, that i know, how fast i can code chaos
and i don’t want that skill to come together with the
possibility to spread those freshly coded bugs ‘on the fly’. -
Well i don’t know if it’s at all possible but would some kind of server side hook that runs when the server is started that then enables the FLHack mod not work? Then if anyone with FLHack logs onto a server not running the server side hook, the mods just will not activate. Pretty much how Prochyon Hook does it with the wing animations.

I personally doubt, that would be necessary here
(while i still would be glad to see a nice anti-cheat).If someone wants to visit a server with a wrong client,
it would be easy to change the version with reshack
or maybe you could even just use the fl.exe of that mod with other stuff.This hack might give us maybe 1 or 2 additional smarta** in a while,
who switched off version checking and visit this + that server
or just click the wrong one.And the ideal way to deal with that, would be to have a tool
at the server, which just keeps it away from crashing
cause of wrong or silly client requests.Silly client requests should definitiv crash the silly client (only).
