Freelancer is dead …
-
yeah right Thats why we had over 700 players online at a time a couple of minutes ago.
http://www.flserver.deFor comparison: The max number of players has for some time (years) now been under or around 600 players.
Seems like we are still having some fun here
-
Yeah, I wondered as well why DFLS has very much higher player numbers than before (from what I have heard from about ~15 to 30) and PH as well: ~10 - 25 or so.
Nice news, but I wonder what happened.

Freelancer remains in the top ten games looked into at MODDB. FL is still alive. With better modding techniques and mods rolling out, I’m sure FL still has a few good years left
It’s also thanks to sites like this one, to keep the community of modders together and brainstorming for new ideas/solutions to old problems, that has helped significantly.
Go Team!

Does it maybe has something to do with the 7th november?

Something is dead when people don’t talk about it anymore.
Aslong people still makes new mods, features and such, it won’t die -
sry 4 doubblepost but with the data of xfire and flserver.de it says me:
there should be circa 3000 FL-Online-Players (per day! Not everyone plays everyday) which plays 2,5h Freelancer per day.
This number is not realistic, but even with 1/3 imprecision there were 2000 ppl left
-
3000 ?! That sounds very scifi
-
Us 4channers and our work-in-progress mod might have something to do with that…
-
Oh, FL is popular at 4 Chan? Can you give us a link to the/a forums topic?
Plus a link about the mod? Much appreciated.
-
4chan doesn’t work like that, there are so many people that threads only last a few hours to a few minutes, to really organize things we have a Steam group and a wiki.

Might this has something huge to do with it?
http://the-starport.net/freelancer/forum/viewtopic.php?post_id=22453#forumpost22453Dunno W0dk4, but are you able to find out a more exact date/time frame at which the numbers have started to rise?

It would be amazing if my little pet project had such an impact. But I doubt it. There are still only 5 sites/servers taking advantage of it…

Erm, maybe the time of year - uni students, end of term, cheap games etc…Yeah, still I think its amazing after all those soon 7(!) years, Freelancer is still FAR from dead. I’d have expected the numbers to decrease, to like ~500 max players online, but they are not.
I do think Discovery’s huge success played a big role there. With more mods to come out 2010 and certain breakthroughs in hacking the game engine, I think we are still in for some rather interesting years to come.
