Regarding MODDB Mod of the Year 2009
-
Battlefield 2 is catching up, fellas. Need to keep up the votes!
-
Freelancer was in second yesterday, will have to look again.
I voted for several mods myself.
-
I agree - I am sure that the frontpage games get bonus votes by the community.
ButâŚwhere do you get such information (âBF 2 is coming closeâŚâ etc pp) - I mean, where do I get it? >_> ^ -
Bas, the scoreboard is here:
http://www.moddb.com/events/2009-mod-of-the-year-awards/scoreboardI will also encourage people to vote for multiple mods at once. What concerns me is that - not sure, but it seems so - Top-100 is not simply based on user votes, but is also altered by ModDB admins to have mods for more games present. For example, if the #1 mod for some game receives less votes than #8 mod for Freelancer, itâs as well possible that they choose top 3 or 4 Freelancer mods and remove the rest FL mods so that more games could get in.
Can be mistaken about this policy, but results for previous years (not just for Freelancer) showed that itâs very likely: you see how many votes Half-Life 2 gets, but you wonât have 50% of the list contain HL2 mods.
-
they dont edit the results
i know that for sure as im in good contact with one of their adminsit would not even be neccessary to edit anything because the current results a very illusionary
1700 votes for FL
maybe the best FL mods have 200-300 votesthat is not much
eg. a game that is ranked on position 12 and has only 700 votes in total but but has a mod with 400 votes would be still far higher ranked in the top 100even if FL is on position 2 it might happen that no FL mod reach the top 100 because there are not enough votes for that mod.
To give votes to small FL mods is nothing wrong if we want to push the game, but we should make sure that the big mods which are able to reach the top 100 get every possible support.
Only that will bring FL mods into the top100 ranks. And when the 2nd phase of the voting has started then we have to make sure that the top100 mods (FL) receive a maximum of support aswell.
-
@OP: Hence why, if you vote for all mods, youâre certain to both promote the game and help the biggest mods reaching the Top 100.
-
yes - but the results show that not all ppl vote for all mod which is just natural
but we should make sure that the members of our communities at least vote for the biggest and most active mods because these are the ones which have the best chance to reach the top100if ppl vote for these mods good, if ppl vote for all mod even better but the âgoodâ should be the minimum we should aim for.
-
Of course. I donât think many people actually do vote for the smaller mods without voting for the big ones though; the reverse is far likelier.
-
No offense to any mod talked about here, but player numbers doesnât automatically mean they are the best mods. The communities they have built up are just as important and help to shape a mod.
As an example iâm not an RP kinda guy which is why some of the mods including Discovery are wasted on me as i donât enjoy that style of play. Doesnât mean itâs a bad mod and please bear in mind this is only an example ,before someone jumps down my throat.
All the mods need the support of everyone and thatâs the most important thing, which is why i voted for all of them. In the next round i shall do exactly the same unless its one vote only but i canât remember if thatâs the case or not.
-
the numbers of players on a server has not neccessarily something to do with the quality or the size of the community behind it.
My server does not have the numbers of players like the top servers eventhough it remained in to top 10 of the servers for almost 5 years. Still, behind it stands one of the largest FL communities, which very often is based on strong singleplayer aspects. There are also other very strong communities around mods which dont reach the number of online players that discovery or hhc have.
If you dont know who belongs to the most active or best mods then vote for all, like it was suggested. That way you for sure dont do something wrong. ^^

Surely any vote at the moment is good as it keeps FL in top 6, and therefore visible. Iâm not sure I agree with the strategy, but I understand the rationale
When it comes to the top 100, people should vote for what they think is the best, and certainly only for mods theyâve played.
Otherwise the top100 is meaningless as it will not reflect the pleasure derived by people from playing the actual mods. So the biggest FL mods should be represented the best, and therefore get the most votes, if people adopt this strategy.
My view is that the mods in the top100 will arguably be the âambassadorâ mods. By that, I mean people playing these mods may enjoy them enough to play others, or perhaps be tempted to look at buying the game. For this to have meaning in my view means only vote for those you truly believe to be great. Yes, the biggest will fair best in this instance. No, I donât believe you should vote for all of them - just the ones youâve played and think are the best.
