Well let’s see, how much would it cost me in real money to get a battleship? Let’s talk months, years and real money. I mean there’s no way i can justify the time and finances to play eve for a start, i’m not the pay per play sort of guy anyway but i don’t have the patience for the slow pace of the thing, let alone the finances to watch myself try and get a skill, only to find out it will be ready sometime next week.
Only comparison gamewise i can make to eve is X3 which doesn’t cost as much and gives me the micro management factor, visuals and ships to fly that i enjoy, without the financial burden of constantly paying for the thing.
You can’t compare FL to eve in any way as they are so different, not even worth the comparison imo

To get to battleship IS quite an endeavor, a few months of gameplay if you dont go RIGHT for it (which is a bad idea, your other skills would be poorly lacking and you’d be a big red target), but you can get into decent ships for group PvE (which is rather fun if you RP), I just got my first Cruiser, and I’ve been playing for only 4 days. So you can get to decent ships early on and have quite a bit of fun, even on trial accounts. And even if you’re a casual EVE player that doesnt have lots of time to grind for ISK (the credits of this universe), once you get a few weeks in, you can set up R&D which can generate about 100mil a month, which is not insubstantial. It’s pocket change to the big boys, but for new players, especially non hardcore players, that’s quite a bit.
I dunno, it depends on what you’re into. I’m ok with the lack of direct ship control, cause once you get to larger ships and start being able to deploy drones, play with fleet groups taht you command, etc, you have alot more to pay attention to than maneuvers.
One other thing i like about EVE and DISLIKE about EVE is the skill system. the good thing is that you can train while you are not in game. the bad thing is that it takes hours to train skills. So sometimes you really are grinding until something happens, IE, a ship ability finishes, or a weapon ability so you can mount that nice shiney rare gun you got.
it’s fun if you like what they’re offering. else, you’ll proly hate it with a passion.

Hours to train ???!?!?! You SURELY mean days if not MONTHS !

Yes well…
What you haven’t mentioned is that you must realise that…
… it takes time so that the producers and operators of Eve can make lots of money to buy their yachts and live on the Mediterranean for the rest of their lives while you keep on waiting… and paying…

eh, ive only paid for a total of 3 months of eve. nowadays i just do plex sites in 0.0 and i can easily make around a billion or two if i plex for a couple days, and i can pay for my subscription with an ingame isk amount (think around 300 mill isk for a month’s sub)
so its not all that bad. sure, some people prefer to paying with real money that paying with ingame money so that they can stock up their money supply to buy say… a supercap, but most people just do the ingame money sub thingy, far easier and less messy, and doesnt rape your bank balance either
im currently training for large energy turret 5, followed by amarr bs 5 soon hopefully, and on my alt doing tengu offensive subsystem skill to level 5

Nice game with awesome models and graphics!
BUT to time and money consuming in my eye
s and the thingy that u can
t rly control are keeping my hands of of it. -
I started playing EvE in March of 2006. After six months of paying with real money and building up my skills I haven’t paid for a month of playtime with real money since. I’ve been using in game money to buy game time. This in game money is earned by running level 5 missions, plex sites and the manufacturing that I do. I’ve worked up quite a character with a skill point count of around 75 million and my main three things I do is run level 5 missions, plex sites and also build cap ships (this includes mining the materials for them myself).
In addition to those duties I am also CEO of my own corporation and executor of the alliance I created. I have two alts that are also CEO’s of my two research corporations that run their own stations for research and manufacture.
I’ve spent a long time in this game to the point where I can finally take a breather from the hard work and maybe play every weekend and still make tons of ISK (in game money unit), enough to pay for my game time and buy materials and toys as I see fit in game.
Lots of fun once you get going in the game but it is difficult to get things started off all alone.

Remember playing it “on release day” (I think it was abuot 5 days after UK release - back when you paid £29.99 for the game and then got 1 month free).
I got it hope, installed it… and then had to wait about 5 hours for the first 24Mb patch downloaded over my dialup internet connection.
Those were the days
I tried to get a refund but they wouldn’t let me (I think there was another patch a day or two later, similar size, and I’d had enough of such stupid dl times before playing).
I didn’t play the game, big waste of cash Tried playing a few years ago, got bored inside a few hours (on free trial for old account).
Never understood the attraction to be honest shrugs Did like the feeling of “expanse” and number of players though
Amazed how long some of you are playing it etc. -
I stoped play it, because i more like to make my own space, not going to snatch it from others, tired.
So that’s the only reason i keep active in this forum and still working on my mod.
EVE still is a good game, but it’s not good for me, i like stay in peace with out war or loot.
