Hey! + Project Idea
-
Hello all!
I haven’t been around recently and have decided to return back to the great community freelancer is! I kind of stopped playing freelancer and coming here after Dark Rain Died because our site died and i couldn’t get ahold of the admin and well i was like screw this :(. Anyway right now i am digging around for my flash drive which has all my freelancer stuff.
I got a bit of an idea recently that we should completely document everything we can about freelancer modding. i am personally willing to do a bit of work on this but if we as a community do this we can make the whole modding scene much better with teams sharing techniques. If people are willing to help with this and there is an actual want for this then there is a vast amount of info we can source here and on the archive.
So just a hello,

Good idea, I would suggest using Google Docs as a multi user tutorial store, I’ve been using it for the last few years to store useful tutorials and capture mod concepts.
The documents can be set as view only by the docs admin when they’re complete or the potential editors can be limited to those who add to the topic/document.
We have around 80 documents (mostly text and several spreadsheets), this has used about 1 mb out of the 1 Gb available on a free account.

The [[Modding Database]]'s already good dozens of hours poured into it, would be worth working off that.

In my opinion its peritty good that Dark Rain project died, because I checked their site, and currected most of the information there because it was wrong.
Excuse me!
Do you thinks its god to tell someone that it was a good thing that something they put alot of work into died, i don’t know where you come from but hear in Australia we don’t down play other people work/effort/ideas because they didn’t work out the first time! What if i told you that everything that you have worked on for your mod was a big waste of time and that your ideas weren’t worthy.
And corrected what info? The stuff that was on our site where ideas/concepts and progress, unless you hacked my PC and was watching what i had gotten done then what was there to get corrected?
I’m sorry if that came of strong but you just insulted 6 months of work and that hurts bad
As for the way i was thinking, it would be like a mod installed on top of freelancer which put’s .txt documents with each main file explaining what it does how it is modded and some examples of things you can do with it.

You are quite right Ozed.
Did you see our server offer?
If you’re pleased with your mod and it is stable we could host it for you if it’s only lack of a server that is stopping you?
It is a commercial server provided to our Guild.

I can’t believe it but there are no requests so far - I thought people were crying for free servers!
Darn, how people have changed!

Has Dark Rain already released a mod client?
Hm, what about asking Fox about Flak 88? I am not sure but it might be that none of all the F88 servers out there have a good connection or performance
Just a random thought.

No, dark rain never got anywhere near that stage.
Anyway for the project i think it will be more of an offline version of whats up on the wiki plus more. I would be happy to upload everything i write for this to the wiki. if you said you would help you can go on writing about any file type in freelancer that you want already, i will try and come up with some sort of template for us to use.
Also PM me to tell me who will be helping because i can’t tell who said yes without you telling me:)

Hey, i managed to get a basic starting page/text document for you guy’s to look at any comments/criticisms are welcome i advise you use word wrapping because i didn’t break the lines. just one thing, if you are helping with this i think it would be good to add your own foreword with mine just about modifing freelancer, it’s a bit corny but hay, once you leave this community maybe you will inspire others with your words
Take a look at it and i need feedback!
