ERROR:General:StreamingSound: missing MP3 codec?
-
I applied a patch/hack to use the Fraunhofer MP3 codec (which is indeed present in the system32 folder) (BTW I’m talking Vista here)
Yet, my FLSpit.txt/FLSpew.txt is still full of many times this line:
ERROR:General:StreamingSound: missing MP3 codec?
Currently I have the FrontierSpace 1.75 mod activated, but I got the error before, in the same abundancy, so I’m quite sure the mod ain’t the problem.
1. What else can I do to fix this error? The only thing I found thru Google was the above solution of installing the Fraunhofer codec.
2. Does this, or in fact any error, actually hurt? I haven’t experienced any trouble playing the game. But maybe stacking errors cause system instability and eventually the unavoidable crash?
3. What if a (hypothetical?) system instability is caused mainly/only because the FLSpew.txt file is getting too big? Can this error be added to an exclusion list, so that it’s not written into the FLSpew.txt file?
EDIT Btw what someone at TLR suggested - reinstalling the game - does not work at all. And running the Redist folder files doesn’t work either.

Awesome indeed! Have no opportunity to test atm, but (question to anyone in the knowlegde) makes this plugin ‘just’ end the ERROR:General:StreamingSound: missing MP3 codec? from FLSpew (which by itself would already be awesome) or does it actually enables FL to use proper mp3s eliminating the need to wrap ém as RIFF-WAVs (for which I would need some superlative of ‘awesome’ that I need to pick from Wiktionary) ?

It’s a true fix. You still need RIFF-WAVE (could possibly overcome it, but meh).Than that’s already awesome by itself It’s very nice to be rid of these missing codec messages.
If however at a given moment you happen to find yourself with nothing to do, a plugin to let FL use mp3s directly might be nice passtime

Pretty sure Adoxa gonna be a bit busy over the next few days… even without impending category 5 cyclones… u Queenslanders get all the fun :(…
Anyhoo… thanks again for this (and the other dodad i “noticed” yesterday) this “problem” has been a thorn in my side since i upgraded PC’s years ago and cause for much mystery and codec downloads… none of which fixed the prob… for FL at least.
Cheers m8… now go find a secure well grounded post… and chain yourself and your PC to it… beware of flying cows… i hear there a kicker

See, this supports my argument - stay with an older PC and forget Win Vista & Win 7!
