How to HOST a MULTIPLAYER at LAN without using internet connection???
-
In Windows XP, you need to have a LAN set up and a physical connection at least to a hub.
Windows 98SE did not need a physical connection. XP does.
-
Also have to ensure the port is open on Windows’ firewall. Sometimes the first time you open a program, the window asking your clearance for program permission pops up under the game so you don’t see it until later -and perhaps forgot what popped it up so just deny before evaluating.
- Side note: anyone tried setting up the MS Loopback adapter and running the server through that?

You need to add quotes if you are using spaces in the path.
So…use this instead:
“C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe” -s127.0.0.1:2302
And youi forgot to add a space right before the -s.

I did all the things that I must do. I went to adoxa’s website and follow the steps:
Here are the steps -Go to your Freelancer group and start FLServer (or run Freelancer\EXE\FLServer.exe);
enter anything for the name and make sure “Allow New Players” is checked;
bring up the properties for your Freelancer shortcut; you should now see the “Target” highlighted, so press End and paste in everything between the quotes: “ -s127.0.0.1:2302”;
start Freelancer, select “Multiplayer”, create the account if you haven’t already done so, select “LAN” and you should see your server there
–-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At FLServer I chose (Allow New Players), (Make Your Server Internet Accessible), and (Allow Players to Harm other Players). With a password, 10 min. players and a server name.
Then at the TARGET I typed this = “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe” -s127.0.0.1:2302
Then run the original Freelancer.exe. But I also try to run the Shortcut. ( What should I open, the original or the shortcut? )
Also my FIREWALL is OFF.
But still, I can’t see my created server at the LAN lists.
And by the way, I am talking about playing SOLO Multiplayer here without any INTERNET, ETHERNET, WI-FI, CABLE connection, PROXY, etc. NO connections from the OUTSIDE world.
Just me and my desktop or laptop alone. Playing the Freelancer.

@ NORT
How did you finally ran it?
What do you mean? - you had made the server run ( 5 times )?
Then you put the ( “C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer\EXE\Freelancer.exe” -s127.0.0.1:2302 ) at the ( TARGET ) later.
And it worked?
Can you please help and tell me of what you had just did.

It is possible to run the client and server on the same machine. Also it should not require any setup at all, LAN servers always show in the list if the ports are set right.
The problem is pausing and random crashing. This only occurs if both are ran on the same system. If found it bearable since testing on the same machine is typically much faster.

@ adoxa
Still no help.
But I read from other forums that VISTA was having a problem on - (they say) DIRECTPLAY - i guess. Or anything that Vista causing many problems. Cause Vista, as we all knew that its SUCKS.
Do you have any solutions about Vista problems on how to solve LAN Multiplayer Server List problem.
Can you HACK it regarding on this problem on VISTA?
There are many people who were asking also about this problem, as I google it, they said the Anti-Virus, Vista’s problem, Directx10, etc. And still no solutions on how to solve this problem.
By the way, My PC is Vista. Which I didn’t know that it will make me problematic. Damn Vista!!!
Wish I have an XP. Downgraded though.
Please HACK this problem on playing LAN (Solo) Multiplayer at the server list that will make your created server show on the list.
Thanks.

So - only NOW you tell us it is Vista!?
Does Freelancer run properly on that machine when you do have an internet connection?
I have just confirmed that on XP:
1. When I disable all my network connections I cannot see my LAN FLServer on the same machine.
2. If I set my Freelancer.exe shortcut to “…\freelancer.exe -s127.0.0.1:2302” then I can see my FL Server and can connect to it and play, even though all my network connections are still all disabled.
3. I have VirtualBox installed on my laptop, and this has made a virtual network called “VirtualBox Host-Only Network”. If I enable this I can see and connect to my FL Server without doing 2.
4. I have tried both Plain Freelancer 1.0 and 1.1, and both follow 1, 2 and 3. So whoever said 1.0 cannot connect on the same machine - wrong info!
On Vista I believe you have to disable IPv6, and disable MS Security Essentials and all anti-virus programmes? Try it.
Why don’t you set up a dual-boot with XP on your machine? I’ve done that successfully on several Vista machines, some of the guides on the Internet work fine, I just chose the easiest one to follow. You may have some problems with drivers if your PC is quite new.

Yes it works fine when I have an internet connection. I can connect to the INTERNET list server and there are many servers available.
But when I went to the LAN, it is empty also even if I have an Internet connection.
Do you think that I should upgrade my VISTA to Windows 7?
Is Windows 7 the same as the XP but with more new features?
Can you also try if you can play Freelancer in Windows 7 by using the ( Freelancer.exe shortcut to “…\freelancer.exe -s127.0.0.1:2302” ).
Cause if you can connect by using this shortcut IP addon at XP, then how about Windows 7?
Thanks.
-
I don’t yet have a WIndows 7 machine, can anyone else try and report back?
-
Been running on one for a long time now and it’s great. Better experience than XP, if that says something.
-
I mean can you do this test on Windows 7:-
