I don’t like “official jargon”, it’s made me want to sleep and feels like take to mechanical thing. I hope all of those people can reply email in that style.

I second that.
,, :worship:,,, :bounce:, :protest:, , :hitler: and should all be added, imho. Well maybe not :hitler: as we have lot of people from Germany and it might be a problem to them, legally.

Hey Gary, our legal team provided the green light on this for the language below. I’ll be updating the site at some point today.
Microsoft Game Studios has made the decision to retire player matchmaking services for Freelancer. We are proud to have hosted these services and would like to personally thank you for being loyal to our games. You will still be able to play your games and create matches within your game; however, matches will no longer be hosted by Microsoft Game Studios.
If you wish to have matchmaking services, the Freelancer Community has provided a solution to allow players to find servers online. This solution is available through http://www.fllistserver.com Microsoft is providing this link only as a convenience to you, and does not imply endorsement or any association with its operators. Microsoft shall not be responsible or liable for your use of these third party sites.
Cheers
w00t!

Whilst we cannot pester him for source code for obvious reasons, I am wondering whether it wouldn’t be too much to ask this guy where we should direct enquires to ask if they’d consider releasing the source code for the game!
It has been done several times with MS - there was Space Allegiance (I think it’s called) and the Mech Warrior series I understand.
The key to all this is not just asking the right question, but asking the right person… Would he have any idea as to who within Microsoft we should direct a request, along with the petition web address, and see what transpires? It is coming up to 7 years since release, so…
Just emailing people at Microsoft will serve no purpose. You need someone who is sympathetic to the sorts of community plights over games. Lawyers or heads of departments are not likely to be those

if that doesn’t work there is another thing left to ask…if they could redirect the dns entry for the GLS to Crazy’s stuff.

Nah, I was talking about that they might could redirect the DNS directly to Crazy’s server so no changes are necessary at the FL client.

Would be worth a try.
Last time I’ve asked, the MS legal team said that they can’t redirect a MS DNS to an “unsecured” server.
Secured to them seems to mean a server hosted in a MS datacenter.I even talked to akataka about “renting” a MS server back in time.
The costs would be around $3,300/year and even with the money he would be very suprised if they’d even do it. -
