in Freelancer the model is irrelevant for the appearance of maps on it. every model supports light maps. if you have issues most probably these are because you didn’t edit the .mat file as should be. have a look at the archive, at eoa or at digital brilliance for complete tutorials and explanations.

Yes you need to add some channels to your .mat file textures.
Please do a search or Gisteron’s going to take my carrots away if I tell you how.

no the plating is not modeled, that is just some great texture work by Rick.
Also just to note that they all have all of the glow maps as well, they are not rendered in the pics because Ray Tracing and HDR rendering makes them major bright and hard to see the underlying textures.
