New Frontiers Mod

Hi everyone,
In 2006/2007 I created a mod for Freelancer as at the time I felt there wasn’t a mod out there for me. It is known as the New Frontiers. I see since then there is a great choice of mods and many are well polished. I still feel my mod has a lot to offer, especially for those that want the original Freelancer experience but with new places to explore.
Anyway recently I have added the finishing touches to the mod and I want some people to play test it for me to find bugs and give me some feed back. The mod contains around 50 new systems, 5 updated systems including omicron minor and major, 10 or so new ships and a selection of new weapons. The bases all have infocards, news, and rumours which reveal the underlying story behind the New Frontiers. The basic mechanics of the game remain faithful to the original except for a few additions such as the AI shields regenerating and the AI using some bats and bots (but not too many). Some areas are intended for multi-player co-operative but these are usually far off from the more civilised systems or deep in the asteroid belts and nebulae clouds.
The mod is based on the concept of the Sirius Sector around twenty years on from the single player mission. The four houses took it upon themselves to clean up any remaining nomads and that meant sending ships out to the Edge Nebula. During this process new systems and worlds were discovered and there was a race to settle the New Frontiers. It was then that the Nomads retaliated. They still had a strong presence in the area, a second base hidden and protected in the Edge Nebula. The race remains as enigmatic as ever and their motives unknown.
The New Frontiers are mineral rich and the Houses are intent on a period of expansion as the inner systems become depleted of the raw materials required to sustain the lifestyle the humans have come to enjoy. In the core worlds the people have been led to believe that the aliens were nothing but a myth and it was a coup in Rheinland that led to the build up of their forces and their attack on Kusari twenty years ago. Of course those serving on the frontlines in the Edge Nebula know the truth. Also Bretonia has expanded out beyond its territories into the Upsilon region. The Bretonia government claim that the area contains no economic worth. If so why are they refusing to let foreign shipping into these new systems?
A new beta version has been uploaded for testing and includes open SP. Please feel free to download for testing.

It’s just the DVDMan dishing out his daily dose of negativity, nothing to worry about! I think the only time I’d start to worry is if he starts singing someones praises for no apparent reason, then I’d be calling the doctor.

The mod was just collecting dust since the days me and my friends had a server running and mucked about with it. I thought it was worth people having a look at it. As pointed out the mod is about exploration and reading the infocards for a bit of back story. It was never about shiny new things and uber ships and guns. I concentrated on system design and trying to establish a reason for why something was where it was. I didn’t want a 100 new systems that were generic. There was no team of clever techies behind it, just one guy expanding on the original game to create some co-operative material and new places for people to explore. Incidentally 90% of the content is for end game where you have a decent ship and level 9/10 guns.
So if you want to give it a go then feel free if not then no worries.

Anyway, the original Freelancer experience is not exactly what I’m looking for in a mod. I look for something maby not really new, but something that looks good, and has an interesting concept, a bit over Freelancer - another experience of a space advanture that can be achieved only with facing different stories all mixed up in one place.In other words (or if u don’t wanna read the whole story), the chance I’ll play a mod like that more then a week is pretty low.
Oh BTW don’t you have a forum, or a ModDB page so that I can see the pictures better?

Criticism never hurt anyone when it is constructive. What you did wasn’t. It’s been a trend with you. He clearly stated exactly what the intent was, and then you went and commented on how the mod wasn’t the opposite of what he said he wanted it to be. Read the walls of text occasionally, you’ll be surprised by what you learn.

Let them think themselves experienced… Its the only thing I can say before the ban… I’ll just leave freelancer for once and for good, cuz its the only community I wasn’t banned of.
