Changing the targeting cross hair

Adoxa created a tool for changing the colours of many things, crosshair was probably one of them.It’s called freelancer colors and you can find it here!
hmm, another nice find, I could use this colour change thing, however there is no indication where to put these, or how to edit them as there is no readme with the file.

What do you mean? Just run the tool, it hacks freelancer exe from what I remember, no need to put anything anywhere.

It’s a plugin/script for TinyHexer.

inside mouse.ini of the data folder… change the color settings (R,G,B, saturation) for the following…
[Cursor]
nickname = hostile
anim = neutral, 1, 0
hotspot = 32, 32
blend = 4
spin = 0
scale = 0.450000
color = 191, 29, 29, 255[Cursor]
nickname = fire
anim = hostile_fire, 1, 0
hotspot = 32, 32
blend = 4
spin = 10
color = 191, 29, 29, 255
scale = 0.450000Colors you may see in mouse.ini:
color = 255, 255, 255, 255 = White (Neutral Target)
color = 135, 195, 224, 255 = Cyan/Light Blue color
color = 191, 29, 29, 255 = Red (Hostile Target)
color = 59, 191, 29, 255 = Green (Friendly Target) -

mmm tried editing the mouse.ini in notepad, comes up with garbage stuffMost of the ini files (w/ exception to one or two) are encrypted. You have to use Bini to decrypt the ini file to readable text.
You can find it at http://www.swat-portal.com/php/lancersreactor/index.php?page=DownloadDBFileDownload&dataID=719
It’s simple to use, much easier than a hex editor… it’s a single .exe file that can be ran in dos, though I find it easiest to just drag and drop the ini file over the bini.exe icon in windows. This will decompile the ini and save it as an ini.txt file within the original .ini’s folder (Ex: Freelancer\Data\Mouse.ini will save the decompiled file as Freelancer\Data\Mouse.ini.txt). Rename the original ini (or delete if you’re feeling brave), I usually go with .ini.orig, and then rename the .ini.txt to just .ini. You don’t need to worry about recompiling it as freelancer will use the file in the readable format as well as the original compilation.
With this, you can actually begin modding more than just the colors on crosshairs, if you’d like. You can change the reward amounts for specific missions, you can change cruise speed, change cargo size of ships, armor and HP for ships, change values of commodities in certain bases, change the ships that are for sale at certain bases, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Of course, it may take a little effort to review the various values assigned for various entries to get an idea of how to adjust certain values… other times it’s sometimes trial and error to get something the way you want it.

I can’t find the targetting blocks - like, when you click on a ship a kind of frame goes around it? I can’t find where to change those colors, but I was able to change the color of the reticle where you click to aim your weapons.

Hahukum, check this thread; http://the-starport.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?start=30&topic_id=2458&viewmode=flatℴ=ASC&status=&mode=0
It’s the only time I remember seeing a different coloured frame on ships. (see adoxa’s post)
-
oh wow, so the targeting is linked to the font color… I guess that makes things… easier? Also, no wonder I couldn’t find anything other than the arrows in buttontextures.txm…
JIC RGB values are not one’s strong suit… here’s the color references found in that rich_font.ini (will have to use Bini to decompile and edit the .ini)

how to do it.
1. download Tiny Hexer.
2. install and open it
3. using Tiny Hexer, find and open your freelancer.exe
4. double click on the Fl Colours.mps file. (which will now auto open with tiny hexer, make sure you open it after you open your freelancer.exe)
(a box will appear with all the editable colours)
5. go crazy with it until you are happy.
6. press save on the box that comes up.
7. press save in Tiny Hexer.
done. start freelancer and observer your colour changes.

Or, If you open the mirkes.de/tiny hexer folder in program files, assuming that’s where you installed it, you’ll find a folder called scripts. Drop Fl Colors.lng and Fl Colors.mps into that folder then the script is available from tools/scripts menu in tiny hexer.

just a small message this time, don’t know what happened to the wireless yesterday. Please accept my thanks for your help et al.
Hey, these tips from above were just like we imagined. After several hours of browsing, jumping from one terminal to the other, testing, scratching one’s head etc have we got that applet running. But it cannot do what we wanted, namely changing the colours from the message-, info- and all else boards on-screen. They’re all blue and no cloud on the canopy. Could maybe someone please tell us how to go about that then?
Yeah, it’s all code and you really can get lost, especially when you don’t know what the specific file is, something with hud probably. So if anyone has an idea so would you mind giving us a cue svp?
… only that, without a solution i cannot continue, though there would be other questions about add-ons and stuff. First though allow yourself a beverage at the bar.
Was this now average small talk? hope the transmitting gets at least a friendly alien.

Hi there once more, me knows that a quick reply to already two nice jokers here should have cleared the original post somewhat up a bit. To be honest, found and hauled a keg of Sidewinder Fang on deck, so you might guess how the day got out of control. Ow, and i lost it again on a pirate base, Those freebooters got fairly out of their minds. Here is a screenshot from Freelancer Discovery 4.85 Unknown Sector what illustrates what me’d like to change:
You’ll perceive that main interaction window where the deep blue rims and corners are too bright for the monitor. What you think, would there be a lil sleight-of-hands to give those another tinge? vanilla is burning an instant artefact so to say on that prototype crystal ball. Appreciate your consideration, ta & t’ra.
Smileys? you row.

Have installed that Discovery Add-On because we were just in Leeds, Siriussystem, barely escaped from Liberty and what shall i tell? apart from incredible things happening from there on, the screen appears to be remaining alright now. Some more, the distance from the Rattlesnake to the jumphole is on my radar 4.2km, just say’n’. Do not forget nanobots later, me stupid and setting waypoints (try that out for a new idea)
…could you play your own music?? 'kay, okay, snatch me that ship’s piano (accordeon) Spaceeeeen
