Tutorial - OBJ to SUR Converter
-
OK Skotty, will do and re-post.
-
Skotty, can you explain these points please, they seem to be opposite to each other?
"Playerships will NEVER collide with moveable sur meshes (for animations). So if you have a wing at your ship and you want to animate it with changing sur mesh, the player will never be able to collide with it. NPCs and stations of course can (see Baydoors or Docks).
Playerships are ships JUST YOU are flying. If a player sees another player in multiplayer, the ship of the other player will act like an NPC! (and you will act like an NPC for the other player, too). That’s why baydoors of battleships other players are flying will collide with you."
Do you mean for example that YOUR battleship’s baydoor will go through into another ship instead of colliding and bouncing off, but your ship will still collide with the baydoor of the same battleship if another player is flying one?
Cata, (it’s Skotty’s tutorial, I only made it into a pdf) I use FinePrint’s pdfFactory Free version, but the current version (4.50) is no longer free. It is the best as it is a cut-down version of their commercial version. I also use PrimoPDF which is the next best, although this one is not always faithful to the original document. Other ones I have tried (but I haven’t tried Bullzip) have produced missing or badly-resized images, and wrong colours.

You won’t collide with your battleships baydoors (moveable group) with any object. But because other players and NPCs are colliding with it, they will get damage and will move away. So it looks for you like YOU would collide with them, but THEY are colliding with you.
Non moveable objects like stations, asteroids, etc. will NEVER visibly collide with your baydoor (because they can’t move away like NPCs or other players) so you will fly through them with your bay door.

Got it, I’m working on a corrected version for you to approve as well.

Skotty: Here’s the fixed pdf tutorial and files complete…
-
And here’s the revised tutorial and files complete, for your checking and approval…

Great, your revised edition is in any case better than my original because of all the additions and the better formatting makes it much better to understand.
So if anyone got open questions about my tutorial, read StarTraders revised version -
Is it still accurate SKotty, or did I misunderstand something?
Is the last version of the Converter available for download now?
-
Everything is ok.
-
Great.
Let me know if you need anything to help.

@ST: Why didn’t you use LibreOffice (derived from OpenOffice) and saved it as pdf? Should be much easier to work with.
I also want to thank Skotty for taking the time to explain most of the functions of my converter. Since I just write the format (nearly) correctly, there are many things which depend on FL rather then my converter. I hope you guys figure them all out and document them accordingly so that everyone can use them.
If I find the time I also will try to make the conversion process even more easier then it was before, but as you might have noticed this can take quite some time
Finally, now that we have a tutorial, I hope more are able to use my program ^^

I just print to the pdfFactory printer - easy peasy.
