Universe and System Map
-
hey all, just a few questions about the universe map and the system map image files.
do these images have to be a square? i know thats pretty standard protocol for like every texture ever within games. but i was just wondering.
also, what is the texture resolution of these images. ive heard they are 256 x 256, can they be higher res than this or is that all it game allows?
If im going to edit these textures and get them visible in freelancer what modding programs do i need for that and where to look for the ones that exist so i can replace them?
cheers guys, I appreciate the help as always.

Hi Hidamari,
I assume youāre talking about the nav map images?
Youāll need:
-
a UTF editor (I highly recommend the ānewā one, itās fantastic, if you havenāt got it already get it.) http://the-starport.net/freelancer/forum/viewtopic.php?post_id=44428#forumpost44428
-
a graphics program capable of editing .tga files
The files are:
data\interface\neuronet\navmap\newnavmap\nav_prettymap.3db
data\interface\neuronet\navmap\newnavmap\zoomedmap_liberty.3dbOpen these files in the UTF editor.
Expand the Texture Library node.
Expand the [filename].tga node.
Extract the .tga file by clicking on the MIP0 node and clicking export.Iāve not tried a resolution higher than 256x256 oh and yes I image it would have to be square as thats how itās rendered in game.
==============EDIT========================
Tested only in 1600x1200.
It will take a 512x512 image. Iām guessing any bigger might cause problems though as the Map window is (from what I can work out) about 582x582 pixels.
NavMapPretty.tga will get stretched on the Vertical axis.
ZoomedMap seems to render ok save for a little bleeding again on the Vertical axis (so as long as the top and bottom of your image match exactly you wonāt notice).

Thanks Rik,
I got the UTF editor and did a test, I placed my map image of 1024x1024 TGA at 16bit into the Editor to replace the sirius map.
Interestingly enough it works, but the top and bottom of the image is cut, yet the sides were not.
heres the screenshot from ingame, i took this after i noticed that something was a little wrong (though i was still overjoyed to see it actually in game )
pasting the screenshot back into photoshop with the original image i managed to get them to sync up
the Grey area is the parts clipped from ingame for whatever reason.
in a new canvas i checked the image attributes of the ingame map area after resizing it with the original image. the area of the Ingame image is 1024 x 900, which is strange to me.
im thinking maybe i will have to squash the Y axis of the original image to fit inside the 900 pixels so it doesnt clip any of the image offā¦
does anyone have any insight into this?

Not sure, try
data\Interface\NeuroNet\NavMap\NewNavMap\SpaceObjects\nav_star.3db
Again open in the UTF editor.

I was pretty sure that i had checked every file in each of the folders like 4 times overā¦ and then you go point to it and its right thereā¦
thank you againā¦ lol, my thing looks pretty cool now. ^_^
Im trying to find the texture that is used for all of the UI interface in the game, that kind of purple texture with the CPU bus lanes on it.
you wouldnt happen to know where that is? I found it once in a file while i was looking for the starā¦ somewhere, I changed it to a different texture but it didnt have any affect in the game. maybe it was the wrong one?
-
u mean like EXE\backgroundpattern.bmp ??
for hud backgrounds it was the:
multi_attentionreqād.cmp
front_loadingbar.cmp
errorexplanation.cmpand so one.
hope it helps, gn8

ive reached anotherā¦ puzzling impassā¦
I have been unable to change this blinking icon for the players ship in the nav map despite replacing the image in \DATA\INTERFACE\NEURONET\NAVMAP\NEWNAVMAP\SPACEOBJECTS\nav_playership.3db
which is the only place Ive been able to locate the appropriate icon to which should be replaced.
here is my scene in photoshop but im not sure its a photoshop issue since the icon doesnāt mess up, it just doesnt change at all.
any advice?

Try
\data\Interface\NeuroNet\NavMap\NewNavMap\Nav_Legend.3db
Cheers,

theres still no change efter editing that one too
EDIT:
Alright. awesome, after much more indepth and painstaking searching iāve found the correct icon to change the player ship icon in the nav map.
the correct file is:
\data\interface\neuronet\navmap\newnavmap\spaceobjects\nnm_sm_info_position.3db
