He wanted a mod with the Vanilla feel. And he made it that way. it has all the HD tweaks, plus quite a few other things. Instead of only downloading the mod just to rip it apart why don’t you just say nothing at all if you don’t have anything good to say about someones mod. Don’t be jerks. Enough said I’m out of here.

But since almost every Gfx (the largest part of the game) has been updated guess what it’s big, add in the fact that there are tweaks to almost every other file in preparation for future additions.
Edit: Also to everyone else, as I said in another thread, I don’t care if anyone else ever plays on my server/mod, I’m building this cause I want to and because I enjoy it. Those that do come play will always be most welcome and valued but the rest can go play elsewhere

It’s customary to show off screen shots or maybe a video, certainly a feature list of some kind first, so anyone wanting to have a look can go, oh very nice, or no, that’s not for me. So many people have come along waving their flag saying check this mod etc, so you do and it’s not up to the required standard, all because there were no screen shots to go with it. I’m fed up with that. You’ don’t buy a new car without seeing it first or reading about it somewhere. Let’s see what we’re supposed to be enjoying first, so then i can decide if it’s for me, simple. No need to get all upset about it.

And about 100 of those are *.flmmbak files.
So to me it seems to be just a full copy of a FL directory
after adding some stuff like the modular stations and a few ships. Is it really a good idea, to create a mod that way?

No dromedary you dont start this. This is a mod. something someone has worked hard on. You dont tear them down over bullcrap like no screenshots or videos. They dont have to give you anything not even the time of day. Required standard? There is no required standard for mods. Get off your high horse. This kind of egotistical bull is what needs to be gotten rid of in the modding community. You thinking someone owes you something to look at or play their mod. Please by all means…DONT PLAY the mod…dont even download it. Have a nice fricken day…

@shadowstorme1
I’m not even the only one complaining yet you lay the blame firmly with me. All Spartan seems to have done is copied the whole of FL and possibly made a few adjustments. That’s not a mod. Nobody has seen one single thing from this mod, no screenshot, no feature list, no nothing. Even his video was simply a copy of the original FL intro. How is this even a mod?At the moment we have only your word and his, which on current evidence is circumstantial at best. Instead of giving me a hard time, why don’t you guys actually show us what you’ve done, a teaser, something to whet the appetite, and not just a copy of FL with some mod manager backup files in it

Ok sorry was AFK all weekend or I would have responded sooner.
@Dromdary I thought all backup files had been removed but obviously either I missed them or FLMM recreated them at some point. I’ll go back into it and find the rest. On the subject of screenshots I already said I’d post some ASAP but frankly I’m one SINGLE FATHER with 2 full time jobs that does this as a hobby so if it takes me time to do something so be it, my help although very competent is just as much limited in their free time.
@Alex I’ll look again but I’m not sure how much I can actually shrink it. I would rather NOT use FLMM or it’s script abilities for several reasons not the least of which is the afore mentioned backup files. I will however be look at alternatives such using an installer to shrink the d/l size, or making some of the gfx stuff optional. Not all of it is optional due to new stuff being added as I expand the universe.
@ anyone who wants to argue in this thread or take negative tones. I won’t beg you to play and to quote my self " I DON’T CARE IF YOU PLAY" I do this for fun and to learn. If you don’t like what I do or how I do it go play in another thread. If the behavior continues I’ll ask for thread deletion and continue as I originally planned, to have a private mod and invite only server. I really could care less. THE ONLY REASON I PUT THIS UP HERE WAS BECAUSE OF THE HELP CERTAIN MEMBERS OF THIS COMMUNITY HAVE GIVEN ME.

if you are looking at using an installer you could take the discovery FL mod’s approach. the mod installer asks you for your FL install folder. then asks you for a folder to which it will install itself. what it does is copy the files from the FL install to the Disco instal folder then installs the disco files on top.
this way you do not need to include Freelancer (Which you should not do anyway) just the files you modified and/or added.

Believe, most of us downloaded your version of mod thinking this is going to be filled out with bunch of stuff looking by the size.
In the end, it turned out totally opposite.
That disappointment immediately brings negative attitude towards it.
To correct this from start, accept tips how to improve it.
Personally, my core mod must be small as possible because constant work/update that is done without auto-update option.
Next, all the enhancements which are optional can be activated through separate mods considering they not affect initial mod (new starspheres, different huds, …).
As a first suggestion by most of us would be (if u want to avoid any scripting), to tell players to make backup of their clean FL folder and paste into it your moded files.
Better would be to avoid this, make it a FLMM mod without any further scripting.
In the end - its your call. -
…. I’m not sure how much I can actually shrink it. …
Assuming you got a backup of your unmodded FL directory
you can try to compare the modded with the unmodded directory.I use
- www.ghisler.com/index.htm
that tool.
Just use ‘Commands\Synchronize Dirs …’
and if it shows the different files, select all files
for synchronizing them to your unmodded FL directory
and also change the target directory for synchronizing them
to something new meeting your needs away from your unmodded FL directory. All added or altered files should afterwards be
in your chosen target directory. And you also can use FLMM to copy that stuff.
Non need 2 deal with an extra installer.
Additional that tool can also search through a bunch of directories
to find all those backup files and delete all of them in one run. - www.ghisler.com/index.htm

Just an FYI: we’d rather not have full copies of FL linked here. It’s effectively pirating, no matter what your actual intent is.
I’m sure you can find a way to distribute your mod without also distributing the entire FL folder with it.

Ok thanks for the useful feedback I do appreciate it. Special thanks to F!R that tool is very helpful in letting me see where I was going wrong with transporting the mod out of my test folders. I should have a better condensed version in a couple days.
@J. Walker: Ty I am aware of how Disco’s mod installs and I hope to do something similar in the near future, but as I’ve never created an installer of any sort some research will be required before that comes to be.
@sumanuti: Many things are still locked in my mod due to a glitch with the model for the core of the story line I’m following (it hadn’t arrived) I left several weapons and ships on the shelf and a few of the core pieces were left hidden in there. I hope to have it and the new systems released as soon as my other technical difficulties have been fixed.
@FF I’m well aware of that but as I said above I hope to have it fixed in the next few days here
