Disabling Single Player Mode

@ rik
Disabling SP. First thing to do is create some dummy ini files to go into the SP folders, DATA\MISSIONS
Here you will see the folders marked M01A, M01B and so on. Inside each of those put an empty npcships.ini file and you can forget SP will work again. This is how NS did it as he’s a good friend of mine and we talked about this ages ago. This also means that if anyone clicks to start an SP game on the main menu, they will ctd. -
Hey Gibbon,
Thats fantastic thanks very much.
@mknote - no this mod is going to be multiplayer only.
Anyone know how to remove to the “New Game” and “Load Game” buttons?
TIA
Rik

cool thanks, mate - should be able to find those pretty easily
Cheers

@OP huh? lol
-
lol, well ic ant remember what mod is was but you could click singleplayer and then the menu would go off the screen, then it would come straight back. no CTD. im gunna have to look lmao XD
-
@ OP
I agree that a ctd is not the best. The point is, trying to disable SP. The way i’ve described does this but the problem is now the menu screen. Most people who understand english will not click where it says UNAVAILABLE. Some will. Those that do will ctd. If i knew how to disable those two buttons on the menu screen, believe me i would lol

the mod might not be compatable with singleplayer. hence why its disabled. lol (tho anyone in there right mind would try everything to make it SP aswell - we are disabling it in ours till I can find a fix. lol)

Yes, if you make a mod and remove all of game’s faction (like me), disable the singleplayer will be better.

Hey….
Personally I prefer the challenges that Multiplayer offers. As do my clan mates and most of the people I have played online with in the past. Hence the mod we’re writing is specifically tailored to multiplayer.
So MK, we’ll have to agree to disagree on this one
I am keen to look at SP stuff but ideally I’d have to totally overhaul the SP missions something I’m not prepared to look at short term, so R1 will be release with no SP mode.
For reference:
resources.dll
001268 - NEW GAME
001269 - LOAD GAME@CheeseOnToast… if you can find that menu fix that would be magic

Quick update…
I created a new text doc, renamed it npcships.ini (0 bytes)
Pasted it into:
Data\Missions\M01A
Data\Missions\M01B
etc…
Obviously left the npcships.ini in Data\Missions alone.Clicked the button that was “NEW GAME” (now “DISABLED”)
The intro movie started, zoomed in on FP7 and hung. Eventually blue screened - memory leak (not wholly suprising in retrospect), first time ever I’m disappointed not to see a CTD
Thinking I’d misread your instructions I also included blank mission files M01a.ini (0 bytes) etc…
The game started and put me in a Starter ship in Omi Major!
Anymore thoughts?

I’ve seen buttons removed somewhere.
My approach would be to find out where buttons are defined, and comment that one out. Alternativly, you could create a ‘training’ system The player is locked into and change the name of the button to ‘Solo Training’ or somthing. -
Now thats the sort of “outside the box” thinking that wins prizes…
I’ll give this one some thought… it might well fit in with something else I’ve implemented already (a kind of Arcade Challenge System which is already separate from the main “universe”).
Thanks for the idea Ruppet!

I have now managed to force a CTD by commenting out then entry for FP7 in M01A.ini.

If i remember right eagle removed a few buttons in his optional mod for his server.
