Playing FL again?
-
Hi there, so waaaayyyy back then i played Freelancer and quite enjoyed it; didn’t get too far in the story back then though. Now I kinda have a hunger for a good space game again but seems like there aren’t any good ones out so far… (some in development though)
So I remembered FL had some mods back then and thought I could try FL again, wouldn’t have thought there still is some kinda active community around though.
Anyway my question: Whats the best way to go about playing FL again? Like is there some mod that upgade graphics/etc and adds some fixes and refinements but doesn’'t really change the game? Or would it be advised to play with some more conversion-mod? Also I saw that Enigma mod but I’d like to play singleplayer and it wasn’t very clear on if thats a possibility.
(PS: The “botcheck” seems bit too sensitive It didnt accept Microsoft Game Studio as answer)

There’s not very many well populated servers left and those that are can be a little obsessive about RP, if that isn’t an issue then Discovery is a large professionally coded mod with a universe around 3 times the size of the vanilla game. I’m not sure if the current release is single player compatible although earlier versions were.
One I have enjoyed in SP is Gibbons Genisis mod is add a few extra systems and new ships with HD system backgrounds

Another I played recently is a total conversion mod based on Elite it’s called Mostly Harmless, it has the elite ships and stations built into the FL game engine and has several hundred systems to explore.

I have a couple of mods as well as vanilla in different folders and I can start any of them (rename the “My games\Freelancer\Accts” folders each time).
I still enjoy the vanilla game better now and then.
But there are not many players out there, and most seem to just ignore anyone new.
I too remember the good old days.
