Textures all on low quality
-
Since I got my new graphics card (ATI R9 270) my Freelancer only uses lowest texture resolution. Besides this, everything workes fine.
Changing anything in Freelancer’s settings doesn’t help. Every setting is useable and set on highest quality.
I am already using adoxas flconfigdatabase.txt which theoretically enables any “unknown” graphics card to use highest quality.
Also adding my graphics card vendor id ( 0x6810 ) by hand didn’t change anything. My drivers are up to date, setting up anything there to overwrite Freelancer’s own settings didn’t help.
Anyone any more ideas what to do?

You need to look at the Catalyst Control Center’s graphics settings. Basically, disable anything they try to override or “enhance”.
Back when I had an AMD card, there was a “Catalyst AI” checkbox to untick, otherwise the game would always use a very low resolution MIP level for some reason.

Yes, lowest MIP level is the problem.
In my Catalyst Center there is no Catalyst AI option in any category. Seems as they removed it.However, I also had this problem before I installed the Catalyst Control Center. It only affects Freelancer as far as I could see.
So far I disabled any enhance or overwrite options without any success.
Edit:
Schmackbolzen just gave me this site http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=362336 with useful information. For example TFQ (Catalyst AI) was set to 31 by default on my computer. But changing it to 30 didn’t solved the low MIP-level problem.
TextureLod and TextureOpt are 30 as written in that thread. -
I’ve read about this issue, here’s a tool that might solve the problem:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Video-Tweak/ATI-Tray-Tools.shtmlATI users wrote that, MIP level problem can be fixed by using it.
Hope it helps.

The official English mirror is http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=733
But the tool is rather outdated by now
If you want an up to date tool use http://www.radeonpro.info/download/
Btw. I’ve had lots of AMDs/ATIs and never had a / that problem. Even my 270x does not have it.

I tried RadeonPro. It states me all settings are set to high quality.
Just a few minutes ago I deinstalled my driver completely, reinstalled it and shut down any program that could produce overlays etc. Nothing of this changed anything. And still, all settings in FL are set to maximum quality. Changing them also isn’t helping.
Reinstalling FL didn’t change anything, too. -
@corpse:
That link was posted on an official forum, I didn’t get any warning.@Skotty.:
Couple of forums say that this ATI R9 270 might have problem with providing mip level correctly (and not just in FL).
Since I’m by no mean an expert on ATI cards (prefer NVidia) I wouldn’t want to say anything stupid, but after reading those posts I think this card isn’t the best choice for FL. -
Some new information:
As soon as I switch to onboard Intel graphics there is no problem anymore. So the problem seems to be either the graphics card or driver software or anything interfering with it.
I will install Win7 on another HDD the next days on the same computer and test out if there are those problems too (using the same drivers). -
Are you using AMD’s Game Booster? This might be the reason I don’t have such a problem with my R9 280.
Also it may be because I’m using Win 8.1.
Try this game booster, and if you already have it then disable it and then try.
