PSA: Blatant Wholesale Plagiarism of Freelancer Mod Community Contributions/Assets/Code
-
So this game is ‘SpaceForce: Rogue Universe’ on Steam.
Now look at this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kG-E_jXgmBQ
Do you notice anything odd? How the ships are reskinned versions of what Freelancer had? How the HUD looks cheaply replaced? How the movement speed, turning radius, particle effects, the ‘boost’ with a hotkey and other things are EXACTLY like Freelancer?
Well take a look closer at the Space Station. That’s from a mod. A mod that I played and loved a few years back called the UnderVerse. There’s a lot more plagiarism in this game but holy cow.
So now what to do about it. The answer is simple.
Buy the game at full price, play it for up to 2 hours and then refund it. The devs LOSE the ‘Steam Cut’ so they lose money for every refund (while you get a 100% refund).
We need to show these bastards how the Freelancer Community feels about plagiarism, especially plagiarism THIS obvious!
EDIT: Bonus points if someone is able to extract the data files from it to confirm that these are indeed the blatantly plagiarized assets that my eyes and ears are telling me. It shouldn’t be too difficult to see the Freelancer-style file system used for mods (unless they drastically changed it).

Looks like FreeLancer inspired this game a lot, that’s a good thing isn’t it ?
If the fact of plagiarism is true, without any autorisation of the autors of contents, that’s really bad.
Same thing with MMORPGs games wich the interface, the skill system, etc, is a bit the same with a lot of this kind of games.
FreeLancer is an heritage for space opera games.

SpaceForce is a really old game at this point and barely had any sales. It was also fucking terrible, so it’s not like it’s gotten much attention.
Just ignore it and move on.

oh boy
Spaceforce is far away from being anything like Freelancer.
Not gameplay wise… not by the look… or the story. The fact that you remember stuff like ships from FL mods only means that these mods got them FROM Spaceforce (not the other way around).
I know the developers and they clearly did not have in mind to copy anything from Freelancer. That game was even supported by the (back then) biggest FL community.
Claiming that this game is like Freelancer is like claiming that Freelancer is like Starlancer or Privateer… and then claiming that those are like Wing Commander which in return is like Elite.
So calm down… play the game if you like it (it has its good sides) or dont play it if you dont like it (it also has a bunch of weaknesses just like every game). Considering how little financial resources the developers of spaceforce had and all the trouble with their published Jowood (a publisher which ruined more than enough good game projects) I can only say that they still did a good job.

I agree with SWAT. Anything you see outside of the original Vanilla 1.0 version of Freelancer in game, has been incorporated by mods from other games, if not designed by the individuals themselves. You can also purchase bases, ships and more from online stores. Same goes for some of the bases & ships on the Underverse. In their credits, they list everything that have accomplished in their mod from other modders that have assisted them and where other resources came from.
Space Force has been around a very long time. I have it on Steam as well but, I’ve never been able to get it to run right. I even have the boxed version and it won’t run, either.

You’re wrong about this one like SWAT said, anything you’ve seen in freelancer that you see in this video, is because it was ripped from spaceforce and put into a mod for freelancer.
I personally liked spaceforce and have played through it several times, along with darkstar one, both games people widely slate but I love pretty much anything that involves a crap story and blasting stuff in space
