Eve F2P Soon…
-
What do you think?
-
F2P isnt something bad
they just make the money with ingame sales -
Nah, in this case they’re keeping the subs, the free players are just there to make the experience nicer for the paying players, basically. Very limited skill tree, ship choices, etc. You can still contribute and have fun, but you’ll be tempted to swap to a sub regularly.

Well, I can only speak from my experience playing Star Trek Online.
You can play it for free if you wish which is perfectly fine and you also can sub which gets you an ingame currency that you can use for special stuff.
Depending on how much money you spend on the game you get special unlocks… until you are considered a veteran.I have lifetime subscription there where I paid a large amount once and get all unlocks instantly and once a month I get a specific amount of ingame currency.
The point is… the is the F2P element which allows everyone to enjoy the game… and also the subscription which allows people get something more special.
Thats similar to the EVE stuff… and i works for everyone. Its just a matter of decisions… what do you want. A free game or a game that allows you to do a bit more than just the free gameplay. -
Grind or pay, grind or pay!
-
Well no, actually, the EVE F2P model is much more restrictive than that. Most of the ships in the game are not available to you, many of the more advanced features are also locked out.
This is more of an endless trial or a gateway drug than a full F2P model like STO has.
-
Yeah, it’s nothing like STO’s F2P model. It’s based on the popularity of large ‘horde’ style nulsec groups from the last big war. Lots of low experience players in T1 Cruisers lead by extremely experienced battle lines. So now their horde players don’t even have to pay to do what they love doing: derping around in cruisers and killing stuff.
Meanwhile they get to watch the big boys do battleship lines and capital hot drops, and drool over the ability to do that someday - if they sub.
Pretty genius if you ask me.
