Iirc, HardCMP is the preferred way to create HPs on your new ship. Am I right?

A request for a quick fresh-up: HardCMP is the preferred way to create HPs on your new ship. Am I right?

It’s always worked for me. It often does require some tweaking of the actual settings for the hardpoint and they don’t always take the first time but if there’s a better tool I’m not aware.

Whichever works for you. Typically I had used UTFEditor until making somewhat crappy maxscript to dump placeholder dummies from 3ds max.
-
The new UTF editor has more features, more support and is actually still maintained, so I’d use that instead.

The latest build should always be here:
http://svn.the-starport.net/utfeditor/latest/
You’ll need to download all the files.
EDIT: I’ve compiled an archive here: http://forge.the-starport.net/attachments/download/393/UTFEditor2.4.zip
We’re on v2.4 now.

Thanks!! Btw that version is 3.0.0.0 (also, I already had it, but I still used 2.0.0.2 because I thought that was the latest one).
As for the proper version of tools, I am similarly confused with CMP im- and exporter. I found a post here yesterday with a .zip file as attachment, supplied by P1p3r. And while the importer says v1.0 and is considerably smaller than the recommended v2.7, it does actually work under Win10. Also, using the accompanying exporter (also, way smaller than the recommended version) it seems that the scale of the model had been left as it should be, at least based on what I saw with UTFeditor’s model viewer (while with the other exporter, iirc, you have to scale it up massively or you’ll end up with a miniature).
So, what would be the surplus value of using 2.7 over the one in that file (which, apparently, is 1.0)?

P1p3r’s MS3D plugins are the most recent you’ll find. Look at dates, not version numbers.

I meant post/upload dates, not file dates.

for reference, the ‘creation date’ is often a poor indicator of a files timestamp. If you copy/paste a file in windows the creation date will be updated as you just ‘created’ a new file.
the ‘modified date’ is a much better indicator.
All the files in my MS directory show the same creation date (the folder was copy/pasted from another hard drive) but the modified dates:
msCMPImporter27.dll - 9/9/2008
msCMPImporterP1p3r.dll - 10/24/2011
