Space Battleship Yamato/Star Blazers mod wanted
-
It’s just a standalone mod. According to the description it can be purchased at Planet Junyo in the Shikoku system.
It adds the ship into the shiparch rather than replacing another ship and is sold for 100,000cr.
-
It’s broken - got this from Freelancer Mod Manager v1.5 when I attempted to activate:
Error: SHCopyFile failed (‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Freelancer Mod Manager\mods\archived_yamatoshipmod\EXE\chips_mod.dll’ to ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Abandonware Games\Freelancer\EXE\chips_mod.dll’)
EDIT: Freelancer Mod Manager v1.5 appears to be completely busted. None of the included mods work!
1.31 allows me to load the mod, but when I try to launch the game it crashes to desktop!
2.0 appears to work, but the actual price is more like 1,200,000 cr.
-
The mod is scripted for ver 1.3
You can not alter files in the *\Program Files (x86)* folder without administrator privileges. This is windows problem, not flmm, easiest solution setup a *\Games* folder and mod from there
Ship price is set at $100000 - price is set in */Starblazer - DR - Yamato.xml if you want to change. Inflated price will be down to equipment costs for the various turrets, torpedoes and guns, etc
-
Yeah, forgot about the added value for the equipment.

Thanks Thaddeus. Like I said, 2.0 appears to work just fine.
Can’t wait to launch her.
-
When you launch in the Yamato/Argo from Planet Junyo the game crashes to desktop.
EDIT: This was in Single Player mode, post-story. I spent weeks, if not months mining diamonds, moving them to New Tokyo, then selling them to gather the necessary credits, then selling off my old ship, its’ weapons and equipment.
All that time wasted on attempting to acquire a modded-in ship, that turns out to be busted.

In single player mode?
-
Yes, in single player mode.
And I was so damn excited to get it too…

Is there any way to get a new version of this that works?

I’m working on it, I already fixed the crash, the broken effects, the mod script and the infocards.
I’m working on the surs right now, as this thing uses the sur of the liberty battleship. Thus many shots miss this gigantic ship.
I also don’t like the collision behaviour, so I might do some tweaks there as well. -

I also don’t like the collision behaviour, so I might do some tweaks there as well. It’s appreciated, thanks. The ship is supposed to be a hero ship though, able to shrug off a lot of hits, and even a ramming collision. So it should reflect this legendary toughness in game - shots should miss, bounce off, get absorbed by the shield, etcetera.
IMHO it’s not supposed to be balanced, rather being nearly invincible. It should still suffer a hit from time to time but I want a ship worthy of doing what she did at the Battle of the Rainbow Star Cluster, as seen on TV.
Or here:
Also for those not familiar with Freelancer modding, what is a “sur”?
-
A sur is a collection of simple 3d shapes that Freelancer uses to calculate weapon hits, collisions and shield damage. Probably short for surface.
-
In real life, the Yamato was almost sunk in real life battle.

Delete this plese, I forgot to quote.

In real life, the Yamato was almost sunk in real life battle.Actually it was sunk in real-life battle. Multiple aircraft from United States Navy carriers took it down - but it took over one hundred bombs and unguided torpedoes to do it. Even in reality she was one tough super-battleship.
Both the original Space Battleship Yamato/Star Blazers anime and 2199, actually show the Yamato on the sea floor.
In the OG series, it was the actual Yamato’s hull that got turned into a Space Battleship, because when the series was made (1970s) they didn’t know that the Yamato broke in two when she went down.
In the 2199 reboot, they are more accurate about this. They merely used the sunken Yamato’s hull pieces as camouflage while they were building the new ship, and the new Space Battleship was based on the shape of the old seagoing battleship.
As a side note, yes I am a bit of an SBY fan. I know a lot about the series.
I’m also a military historian with a focus on Cold War items. I’m an amateur of course but I know a lot about the military and especially the US Navy. -
My work on this is done.
The sur is not perfect, but I think this is caused by Schmackbolzens converter.
But it works well enough. This mod was so unfinished that EA tried to publish it.
But then again, Freelancer modding has come a long way since 2005.[olist]
- Extract the yamatoshipmod.zip to the FLMM Mods directory
- Start FLMM
- Deactivate the old mod
- Activate the new mod
- Maybe copy the existing single player saves
- Load a save before you bought the ship if possible
- Buy the ship again
- ???
- Profit
[/olist]
I hope everything works out for you.
Fun fact: Today marks the third anniversary of my visit to the yamato museum in Kure.

Thank you! I’ll be testing it soon - I know it works with FLMM, since I just activated it.
For now though, I like that you added the ability to use either the new balance or the old. (I chose the old to start with. Time to see if I like it.)
Edit: Oh my god. Captain Rei, you are a MIRACLE WORKER. You can be my chief engineer any time.
I LOVE THIS MOD.

Glad you like it.
The whole new balance thing and the broken effects took me quite a while,
I hope it was worth the wait.
You should be able to freely switch between the old and new balance, so give it a try.See you in Space Cowboy

VERY worth it. I’ve been waiting on this mod since 2014, and you did a phenomenal job.
It was WELL worth the wait - and you are exceptional!
It only took you a couple days to fix everything. Not long at all!
