Freelancer on ROG Ally
-
I’m new to this board, so please be kind if this is the wrong place for this question…
I tried to install Freelancer on my ASUS ROG Ally. That went without issues, however there is an issue when it comes to detect the 3d graphic card. I know that I have to add the card to my flconfigdatabase.txt and used GPU-Z to get the required information.
However, the vendor and device ID reads as follows: “1002 15BF - 1043 17F3”. How do I add this? I added 15BF to 1002 (ATI) - didn’t work. I added 17F3 as a device in a new created section 1043 as that one isn’t listed in the file - didn’t work. I added both - didn’t work.
So, anyone got any idea how to interpret two values from GPU-Z and what to make of it? Or anyone made Freelancer work on ROG Ally? I know it’s possible on SteamDeck, but I guess that uses another graphics chipset… any help is welcome.

Hi mate, are you just running Vanilla on it’s own without a no-cd hack / patch? If so, install a patch from this thread (assuming you’re not planning on running mods) and see if it resolves your issue.

Currently it’s Vanilla 1.0 with No-CD hack. I tried before with some HD mods as I have on PC, but that didn’t worked either. I’ll try the patches you mentioned, though I guess it won’t help as the issue seems to come from the game not correctly identifying the graphics chipset…

Just done some googling and I don’t think the ROG Ally supports direct x 8 which Freelancer runs with. If you install the HD edition, it offers various wrappers for later versions of DirectX. Alternatively if you’d prefer to run the Vanilla/Combined patch, here is a link to the wrapper I use: link
