Deleting the restart.fl worked this time. The bizarre thing was this was after a clean installation so there was no saved games to speak of and I had removed that directory before.

Anywho it works now so thanks J.R and Laz. Greatly appreciated for the help

Yep activated it under the legacy option. The game itself launches and gets to the main menu. I can switch between menu options, change settings etc… It only crashes when a new game is launched.

I have even disabled my anti-virus and firewall software while launching the game. Still get the same result.

Hey all,

Been looking at firing Vanilla Freelancer back up for years. Last time I played it, I had XP running.

I searched everywhere before posting and have tried numerous things to get Freelancer working on Win10 Anniversary Ed. Installed as per norm, applied the patch and NO-CD.exe. But whenever I start a new game it crashes back out to the desktop; “Freelancer has stopped working”.

I have enabled legacy options from within ‘Windows features’ and have enabled / disabled .NET framework versions also with no success. Running the .exe file as Admin, running it in Compatibility Mode for WinXP iterations and Win7. All to no avail.

Kinda lost at this point and I’m gathering I’m going to have to bite the bullet and roll back to Win7. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
