When you run a server…

what server software did you run with it? Or which one do you prefer to use when your running a server. I am trying out FLHook. Not sure what to think of it yet. This is the first server I have hosted and FLHook is the only server software I have used, so far so I have no frame of reference as to it’s quality in comparison to the others.

So far FLHook is working fairly well, but I am fairly new at this and the documentation assumes a fair amount of familiarity with running a server, and I find that my lack of knowledge is fairly stunning.
When I visit the home site of FLHook, I found it to be no help at all.

You should definitely at least use Ioncross - it’s “Old faithful”, if you will. It allows you to do most of the basic cheat detection, as well as ban players, edit players, etc.
FLHook is also useful, and can be run alongside Ioncross. We use Ioncross to edit characters, and the plugin version of FLHook to allow us to have neat plugins for extra features (a bank, admin cloaking, etc). Plus there is a cheat plugin which stops a good portion of the cheats you’ll encounter.
And both of these require relatively little configuration to run properly, so you can basically load them and go.
What types of problems are you having with FLHook, I’m sure a bunch of us can answer some questions

FLHook is running like a champ, it’s my clumsy usage that seems to be the issue. I just figured out this morning that the admin command must be preceded by a period. That kind of thing. Plus in the documentation there is a section that talks about setting passwords and rights for those passwords. I have no idea when you would need to use the passwords if the rights are assigned to the player account. That kind of thing… Or those are the most glaring examples that I have off the top of my head.
