Cloaks

But you can’t use cloaks in single player. You absolutely need to run a local server with FLHook and some plugins running in order to have working cloaks, unless someone created a SP cloak that I’m not aware of.
-
what FF said… there is no current way to engage cloak in SP… its always on… thus you cant shoot either. Flak should already include the hook files for this in a LAN environment… many things in flak only work in MP/LAN, due to the way they work.
-
StarTrader plants bugs on both of them and creeps away into the shadows without being seen…

hmmm… Gibbon has been kind enough to let me run my own Phoenix server for my friends. I am running Ioncross and FLHook. In Ioncross, under the player edit fields I have seen the cloaks. They intrigue me. I am fairly new to moded FL, and really new to running a server. Are the cloaks compatible with the Phoenix mod? If so, how do you use them?
-
Don’t know if they are compatible with that mod - however I do know that mounting those cloaks makes them work with no ON/OFF - so you’ll need to use the FLHook cloaking plugin - which requires client side stuff aswell.
Oh, and don’t use IONCROSS - something like DAM will do - Biocross doesn’t seem to work with any normal MySQL database.

What’s so wrong with Ion-X? good way to learn if ye ask me… that and shell make a nice first step into the madness that is a server
TRY EVERYTHING!!!.. what suits one mod/sysop might not suit yourself or your mod… try it a week each… then at end month decide what was better (ask players as well which week in the 4 was “better”)
too many of us just grab a proggy cuz were told its better… they all have there good & bad… its really down to how u want to operate things
now as for that cloak discusion in SP… its is O.V.E.R. I can elaborate on 20 different reasons why… but i’ll say just 1… IT DON’T WORK IN SP for the player… it was only ever a “fx” for the game to look funky… fact it works in MP at all is a miracle and one we should be very thankful for.
ADOXA cannot fix what is not there… end of story.

Biocross uses MS SQL, not MySQL.

alex was recommending DAM over Ioncross. Yeah, I agree, setting up a SQL server for a game running a few friends would be way overkill. But, who knows, at some point we may want to open the server up to the public. So, I may want to explore that avenue in the future. I kinda like what Xarian said about try them all. So I downloaded DS Acount Manager last night and was reading through the documentation. Looks nice. I am looking forward to trying it out and seeing how I like it personally.
I still don’t know how cloaks work in FL. Or if they are compatible with Phoenix. I tried using Ioncross to edit a test character file with a cloak. Game seemed to run fine, but it wasn’t listed in the equipment load-out, or in the cargo bay. If there is a command (or a plug-in that is needed) to activate the cloak using FLHook, I don’t know what it is.
oh yeah, and to clarify, I an not playing in SP. So, I am interested in how cloaks work in MP.
thanks for all the feedback guys.

Regarding cloaks working in Phoenix, the simple answer is yes they do work, i had them on my server when i was hosting it. Here’s the thing though, i enabled them using FLAC server software and not everyone has that as you have to pay for it. FLHook has a way to do it, have no clue how as i don’t use it but def doable

If you can get the FLHook cloak plugin, all you have to do is add the name of the cloak from weapon_equip.ini (or wherever it is) to the cloak.ini file (comes with the plugin) and then you can just type /cloak and /uncloak to cloak and decloak if you have that particular cloak on your ship.
They won’t show up in game in the cargo hold because they don’t have a [Good] entry. If you made one, it would show up. But there is no reason to do this if you have the cloak plugin.
You can get this plugin here: http://forge.the-starport.net/gf/project/flhook/frs/?action=FrsReleaseView&release_id=117
