[The Starport News]Wiki: Freelancer Mod & Server Database
-
Side topic:
Someone, or it maybe has to be me again, has to update the systems category:
http://the-starport.net/modules/mediawiki/index.php/SystemsMost (if not all) systems DO exist in the wiki, but some of them with the “System:” prefix while others maybe not. For instance, form the systems list:
http://the-starport.net/modules/mediawiki/index.php/Systems:californiaDoesn’t work. But http://the-starport.net/modules/mediawiki/index.php/california does. (Be careful with renaming the specific system pages because they are all linked together)

Works for me (though its a redirect).

i think, if its about ingame information, a source called freelancer wiki (freelancer.wikia.com) is a nice help or even reference. myself have added some aspects there based on modding experience whereas the wiki is built up by players with few knowledge of the exact technical details of it. anyway, maybe a collaboration could help creating a single game spoilers wiki. also they have small articles about several popular mods.
-
Since you list some of the mods twice (you have a mod and a server section), I have also added a server location field to our mod in the list. If you don’t like my sense of order, feel free to remove it
Suggestion: Add servers directly under each mod, this way it will be easier to get an overview.
-
Well I was not speaking about one server per each mod, if there are too much you could add servers in the mods own page and link to the section.
That’s how I would look for mods, first the mod description and then the server list. I guess it would be easier to maintain, too.
Anyway, the decision is yours

Problem with that is that the mod database should give you a quick overview, with servers added under each mod it gets too crowded.
I added a simple table to the server database where you can quickly scan over servers. If a server feels like doing a proper list entry below that, why not

Great idea, but I think the wiki is too overloaded with information…
Mod Database and Server Database = almost the same thing, a lot of overlapping lines… One of these two things may be Player Database (something like this)I think ideal variant to fast mod “download and play” must be like when you downloading drivers on http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us or http://www.amd.com/ru/Pages/AMDHomePage.aspx
Example steps in example form:
Type of Mod->TC, Major, Minor, Patch, Any->Minor
Status->Active, Dormant, Discontinued, Any->Active
Multiplayer->Yes, No, Any->Yes
Location->Somewhere1, Somewhere2, …, SomewhereN, Any ->Somewhere1
Style->RP,PvP,DeathMatch,Test,RTS,Special->RTSExample Result:
*Server Host:Port, Name, Location, Style, Mod, Players, Download Link
dunno.whereyouareatthe.moment:2302, 24/7 Procyon Dedicated , Dunno, RTS, Vanilla, 63 / 64, NiceShinyDownloadButtonSomewhere in the form may be:
- Based on->[Mod List], Original, Any
- Type of Download->Mod, Patch, Tool, SDK, 3D Model, Any
Ofcourse “Server Host:Port” is linked with freelancer URL to start with Freelancer Web Launcher, name is linked to Wiki’s Player Database
As other wariant result is all servers (from Freelancer Most Active Servers) with the desired server at the top and down the most appropriate conformance to the request + availability to sort server list by rows*
P.S. Sorry for bad English but i think my idea is clear
