IONCROSS installation
-
Well I got it to install, ran the setup file as administrator, did the trick, needed the vb run time files though.
The folder does show empty after setup runs but checked in the start menu and there it was, installed.
Problem then, wouldn’t recognise any named save files so errored when launched.
Wierd thing, i edited a save file with the save editor, now it opens in ioncross too.
So, it does work on win7 64 bit, i eat my words, but as always is the case with old software, you have to tinker.

alot of the tools made for freelancer were made just xp they do not work on windows 7 or vista dont try. because i tried already billion upon billions of times.Hmm, the most i try to use just work on Windows 7
You only need to be sure you disable bitdefender and to disable the UAC settings.I manage to get even a server working on it
With all the needed programs installed.Vista is maybe a bit more tricky, dunno, but Windows 7… no probs here.

i must admit i am a noob when it comes to tweking your windows 7. but yes i am able to run a server with windows 7 just not with iron cross server operator. i found that cheaters death light works fine also the latest winpcap works fine too. but i really would wish i can get iron cross server operator to work i love the auto update of players stats.

I’ll be damned.
I actually went and grabbed an old install of Ioncross from an xp box I had and just dragged the whole folder onto my win7 machine. As long as I ran it in administrator mode it worked with no problems. So obviously it can work properly in 64bit. So why the hell wont the stupid installer function?
If anyone is having issues with Ioncross and wants me to host the post-install program folder, just let me know. I didn’t check the version, but it’s probably older than the current build, since my xp machine was last used for freelancer years ago. But any working editor is better than no working editor, yes?

you have to play with all the apps to see if they work so far i know you can run a server with win7 and use cheaters death lite also freelancer explorer can be used. all have to be set in admin status to work i still cant mod details in my mod files in 7 only in my slave drive can i do that. but if i ever want to run a server again i am using windows xp 64 bit

Vista “tricks”…
1. NEVER run anything for Freelancer out of Program files… this includes the game… copy it to your main drive after install eg: C:\Freelancer & C:\Ioncross … ect ect…
2. Kill UAC… and any other process blockers… that includes your AV
3. Run your ENTIRE account (not just apps) as a Admin & don’t use XP compatibility mode unless you have to… make shortcuts yourself and check the admin box just to be double sure…
4. Know your system… keep it well updated & don’t even look at Vista without service packs, Proper (recent) DirectX and .net frameworks
5. Kill IP6… there’s a program for that… google it… disabling it is only half the solution… you want it well dead
anything outside of that is user related… I for one have had 0 problems before and after the service packs came… only 1 app didn’t work… and that’s the Starsphere Utility 1.1 & that’s a .net problem mainly :-?

Just be careful about “killing UAC”. You need to know what you’re doing or you could run into trouble.

@ Adoxa… lol my bad… that’s my brain firing faster than my fingers there
@ rsabatino, 8-) live long and prosper bud… Facebook’s too quiet without ya…FF is right… I just assume everyone has a symbiotic relationship with there OS… and knows what doing in there… and what they feed it.
& I dare say… most of the above is relevant to win7 as well… but my ships mainframe was built for vista… & strangely enough… so was I -
et cet era… etc.
hmm.
French, as we all know.
And the Brits had a 400-year war with the French.
hmmm…
So why not:
“and so on”… aso.?
Voudriez-vous une tasse de the avec moi, mes amis?
Ze Mad 'Atter!

er, actually etc. has not come from the french but directly from latin to all europe where it means somewhat like "and other (things, similar stuff, maybe rather “rest” than “other”). pretty sure that the germanic and slavish languages did not get it only from the french.

Let’s see…
Anglais to Latin:
“and so on” = “ita in”= “Italian” with the ‘l’ and an ‘a’ missing. Hmm… well, Latin is the old Italian language…
An alternative: “and this type” = “quod is typus”
From Latin, et cet era:
“et” = “and”
“cet” has no meaning.
“era” = “mistress”…!!Hey, that’s a good find!
However, “et cetera” = “and the rest”.
So - you are probably right, but - Why you rain on my parade?! I was having some fun!
Want me to start on the Kaiser wars next? Huh? Or prove that all blond Germans are of Greek origin and used to wear skirts?
aso…! (etc…! en Anglais)

don’t mind, dude, just a slight correcture. as its actually not et cet era, but really et cetera at least in all languages known to me and is always used not as “and so on” whatfor the english has aso, the german has usw and e.g. the russians have итд while etc in at least all of them does mean rather “and restage”, “and other”, “and similar”. anyway better to get back to topic now, sorry for that irrelevant inclusion.

Read my post better… “et cetera” and I gave you credit for being right too.
And for the second und Laetste Zeit: Correction. not “correcture”!
