GE Storm Test

Nice one fella =D I like how I got partially blinded the first time I saw it. XD

Thx, this is something I have been wanting to add for awhile. I love this feature in Stalker, finally got around to working on it a couple of days ago. Now all I need to add is a snow texture and a bit of random motion (plenty of examples after the past few days of it snowing here ).

This idea is good, i mean the flash light like real, the particle systems is perfect. But …… Note that the background sphere bit unreal. You may try to make a multi-layer background sphere and control (for exp: set transparency or change texture) them to make more dynamic effects.
-
In what way? The background cube is a real sky picture, I haven’t added in clouds yet though so that isn’t possible at this point….

Ha!
Reminds me of a person who was shot and killed on camera some years ago, so many people called in to say it “wasn’t real”!
We’re so used to exaggerated cinematics that we can’t tell the real thing when we see it, and want more of the “duff” lies to watch! lol
For one, I think it’s brill, LS.

Thanks ST, it took a couple of days to write it and get it working properly. Thats approx 3000 rain drops in the anim. The colored cross in the sky is part of the 3d line stuff Im building for beam weapons.
As far as the cube map, making a material anim probably isn’t going to be done. I am going to have it where it fades between cube maps (IE between a stormy sky and clear sky). The amount of texture memory needed for material anims is just way too much to handle on most video cards. Plus it’s a cube which means I would have to handle edge switching of the texture’s pixels. Each face of the cube is a 1024 x 1024 x 32 bit texture and there are 6 faces. Thats 25,165,824 bytes of memory after it’s loaded into the video memory. I will be adding in a cloud underlay that will use material sliding (like the signs in FL).
Anyways, on to getting the snow part working

If you end up in a snow storm, your ship may crash :))

Odd that is happening, it is a wmv video. What browser are you using? I use IE and the Windows Media Player plugin was a 1 time installation.
-
Embedded WMVs have a tendency to fail on everything but IE - go figure…
Just download the files and view them directly.
-
Easy way to get it is simply do a properties on it and get the following…

It’s great that you want to create a own game engine, but I’m really sorry to say, that everything I saw so far is not better than anything in FL.
-
Give the guy a break, he’s just getting started. You’re only looking at tech demos, not a game.
-
Well think of it like this, FL was in development for 6-7 years, this has been in development as of 3 days from now 6 months.

Why is there always someone ready with a bucket of cold water?

It’s a common theme on the net, look at alot of the youtube comments on many of the videos. I don’t let it bother me and I keep a warm towel handy
At least he is being honest since he has never played the game, it has alot more at this time than FL does even though it’s nowhere near finished. Most of the time all I get is blatent BS.

Looks good, although at first I was going “rain in space?” before I saw the ground
As for graphics and looking good - anyone else play Minecraft? That game shows more starkly than anything else in recent years that graphics do not matter as much as people often think
