An Idea

People are probably going to start yelling at me again for this, but here goes.
At E3 1999, Freelancer won 4 Game Critics Awards including Best Game of the Show. Computer Gaming World, trusting the makers, Chris Roberts’s, vision, named Freelancer as a game that would revolutionize the gaming industry. Shortly after the game was released, IGN called it the Game of the Month. It had thousands of players at the time if not millions.
But the game is dying. It is an undeniable fact. At the time of writing, there were 301 players across 34 servers according to Xfire. How people can lose interest in this game is beyond my comprehension, but the facts still are against me. I still have hope, though. It has been eight years since the games release. Another game series, Golden Sun, had 2 releases in 3 years, and then stopped. If you count Starlancer, then Freelancer also has 2 games in the series released within 3 years. With the Golden Sun series, a third game has recently come out after seven years, though this did not happen without help.
There were numerous hoaxes to draw attention to the series and cause discussion among the creators. My idea is to; instead of doing the same, we can revamp the game. Add new features like a barrel roll ability, update the graphics, etc. There are numerous ways to improve this already outstanding game. The mod creators could easily do this just going on the sheer number of mods and ships that I have seen floating around. Who knows; with a little luck, the great Chris Roberts himself might come out of hiding for a new game.

But ya, these DX9 upgrades, as well as our other FL Hook tricks, will be released to the TSP community for consumption and hopefully will squeeze another year or two out of this great game.

Or, wait, make that a century or two

IMHO:
We will still play freelancer till something will be able to replace it(even after as casual).Any titles that will replace it and will be completed within 1- 1.5 years?
Any attempts of porting it to another engine that were not abandoned
and will be completed within 1-1.5 years? So I guess if there is a game I will play, I know the title for the next 2 years.
