Ship size comparison

Actually if you compare those window sizes (and for the Rheinland BS it’s weapon platforms) you see that Rheinland and Kusari Battleship should be scaled by factor 0.5. But then their hangars aren’t big enough anymore. That might have been the reason why they scaled them up in vanilla, the hangars weren’t big enough and it caused problems with docking snubs.

I made some size comparison and here is what I did, I’ve taken the pilot 3D model and here are the scale factors of each Capital ships I’ve obtained (without Nomads ships of course):
I’ve added the 3D models.
Liberty :
Cruiser : x 1.2 Model : http://p3d.in/c9cbl
Osiris : x 1.30 Model : http://p3d.in/icAAO
Dreadnought : 2.27 Model : http://p3d.in/nplGrBretonia :
Gunship : x 1.73 Model : http://p3d.in/SDwM7
Destroyer : x 1.5 Model : http://p3d.in/9PG6W
Battleship : x 1.565 (don’t forget the 5! ^^) Model : http://p3d.in/NWWt0Kusari :
Gunship : x 3,42 Model : http://p3d.in/MfIom
Destroyer : x 2,96 Model : http://p3d.in/996kQ
Battleship : x 1.2 Model : http://p3d.in/QphvVRheinland :
Gunship : x 1,516 Model : http://p3d.in/liEqE
Cruiser : x 1.903 Model : http://p3d.in/7YkWl
Battleship : x 0.866 Model : http://p3d.in/hCQhd -
I have calculated from that :
- you need to be step up on the rooms so I’ve imagined that the pilot model was stepped up.
- I thought that there was a certain thickness of wall and floor.
- I took first the Liberty cruiser model and then I took the pilot model, I put him inside the bridge and finally I rescaled the cruiser.
- I’ve rescaled all the other ships with the Liberty cruisers windows (NB I used all the smallest windows of all ships).
To make the scales factors I did this equation for scale ups :
1 + (Supplementary length in millimetres / Original length in millimetres)
The 1 is the original length in percent / 100.And for scale down :
(Supplementary length in millimetres / Original length in millimetres)

Update, size comparison of all resized ships :

That should be decided based on what output that sur resizer gives. If it breaks up properties in the sur, you should use the obj->sur converter.

The thing is that I have some problems with hardpoints, when I rescaled the ships via MS3D, and export the model with all hardpoints, that breaks some hardpoints, I’ve tried to use FL model Tool 10ab6. I’ve resized the model to import HPs into the resized model (the MS3D one) with UTF-editor but, as far as I know, some HPs have wrong location. For example, I’ve taken the Bretonian Destroyer and the hardpoints of the weapon platform were moved.
I don’t think that the sur hitbox resize will be a real problem, I hope! If it does, I will surely use the Schmackbolzen’s obj to sur, as you advice me.
Edit : I have to work with the beta models that has Bay-doors.
Edit2 : Problem with sur resizing in FL model tool, gotta try with obj -> sur -_-’ -
Don’t forget I have an updated SurResizer, but I never got around to updating the model tool.

Hey! I am improving my re-scaling with a new process! Now I’m using damaged parts of the ship and a physical stood pilot. I’ve used room instead of window, with some exceptions under-lined in the following list.
Here is a list of redone ship scale with the new scale factors :
Li (finished) :
Cru : x1.92
Dread : x3.1Br (WIP) :
BB : x1.6Ku (finished) :
GS : x6.5
Dest : x7.95
BB : x1.42Rh (WIP) :
Cru : x2.7
BB : x2Or (finished ) :
Osiris : x2.22There 3 that remain to be done.
I will surely make 3D model of new sizes. Shall I do it or no?
EDIT : Ow! I will forget to mention why the scaling sucked [d]up[/d] in Freelancer!
In fact that was to make universal formations and reduce the number of line in the code ; also because they decided to make less weapon models for each faction and finally to stick with the door models in the deck. -
There’s a model resizer in the new UTF Editor now which works for everything. It’s literally foolproof.

I know! I know!
It’s so awesome that we can resize vanilla ships without importing them to ms3d or 3ds max, in combination with adoxa’s sur resizer, the rescaling process is way faster than before.
Many thanks to have implemented this option!
If I make a model pack, I should create a mod with new encounter formations in order to have no weird squad formations where ships are interlaced. And I will need to change Norfolk Shipyard station, it would be quite strange to see this so big Dreadnought in a so small shipyard if I dont resize the shipyards.
