XFIRE
-
There’s a thing going around xfire at the moment where someone will ask you to help them with a school project, they send you the exe, you run it then they have your xfire password (and maybe a few more things but I haven’t got my hands on the program to have a look at what it does yet)
And as far as I know, no anti virus will pick it up as a virus/trojan/whatever yet
so pls watch out for it

Think that goes to show once more that the best antivirus you can get is the one between your two ears. Don’t EVER open attachments in emails, don’t click on links from people you don’t know, don’t open EXEs you have no idea what they are, if it seems bad it probably is, etc.

I personally don’t use a AV program, I have them, I just use Teatimer instead, and I’ve yet to get any viruses.

Hm, strange.
Just yesterday someone tried to reset the pw for my xfire account, but fortunally it must be confirmed via the original mail owner.
And I haven’t touched any files from Xfire users in the last time as far as I am aware. Furthermore, I use Ubuntu with Gaim, so it might store the PWs something different anyways. -

Teatimer is from Spybot if i’m right?
Spybot works okay, but it’s not working against a virus. It’s for spam trojans etc. -

Spybot works okay, but it’s not working against a virus. It’s for spam trojans etc.Actually teatimer asks permission for any registry changes, so it’s quite easy to spot a virus if one does try to get into the system. I still do regular check ups, every month or two, good computer health and all, the only thing I get that’s flagged between the AV and AS software I have is tracking cookies.

Your computer may very well be rookit-infested then

Not using an AV is …… hehe It may be just me but if I stay online for a couple of hours without an AV I’m bound to get a couple of viruses

Well, imho you take a very big risk.
