Mission Impossible - Cargo Extending

i mounted them to players ships one big problem with them is once they are shot off no way to get them back
see my idea was when you shot them off you would lose cargo
basicly the anticheat would have been fine with that
cos the hold size woudent change and when you bought more goods they would come back
but like i say they dont respawn there your problem
basicly add a drop cargo fuse to them -

I could possibly detect when a cargo pod is attached and increase the ship’s hold, but that’s only half the problem. Filling the cargo pod(s) such that when they blow off you’ve lost the cargo is the hard point, and the reason I won’t do it.Is it possible to bypass it somehow? That the cargo stays, but you will have to sell it as you enter the first base unless you can’t fly out.
It may sound a bit not fair, but is it possible? -
FLAC does it and I believe it’s entirely server-side.
When you take cargo as a train, when you undock FLAC will automatically attach cargopods to the hull (also picking the proper archetypes for each cargo type), rounding up as necessary. When you destroy a cargopod, the proper number of commodities is jettisoned by it and the cargopod’s former capacity is entirely filled by a dummy commodity that cannot be jettisoned, thus effectively reducing the cargo space so you can’t just tractor stuff back in.
All of those steps should be doable on the server (and would thus be far more secure than through client-side hooking).

A closed-source alternative to FLHook.

Well, there is a demo as far as I know but it’s restricted (not all features, 2 players on the server max) and invite-only last I checked.

So whats better? FLAC of FLHook?Edit: I googled FLAC and it says its a kind of an audio codec.
Check it out: http://flac.sourceforge.net/ -
Wrong one… Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) vs FreeLancer AntiCheat (FLAC).
And there’s no “better”, just different. What’s better, a sports car or a luxury car?

Linky Eagle Utopia FLAC
To quote the Blurb
Our software is not publically availalbe, copies are only provided to experienced server operators and their affiliates

Im sorry… but am i the only one who thinks making $$ of FL is a big bad red flag?? For fracks sake… for most of us… its a hobby!! but yet agian the best and most helpfull app is resticted… and made to pay for…
I think it stinks… but then im a realist… and mostly everything stinks (lolz)

Well it’s all moot as Eagle is giving up FL. Alphawolf is dealing with it all these days and he’s the man to talk to about improving FLAC. While i agree making money from FL is not good, fact is there is a choice here.
1. It’s an addon for FL you can pay for, not part of the original code
2. It adds features that are unique to the server software
3. You can always use something else like FLHook
4. FLAC isn’t the only other popular addon for FL that people pay for, there’s also Milkshape. On a side note note, if you people actually use Google properly and type “Freelancer FLAC” then Eagle’s forum is the first hit.

@Xarian: Youre right! No one makes money of Freelancer mods today.
@Gibbon:
FLAC isn’t the only other popular addon for FL that people pay for, there’s also Milkshape.
Milkshape is not an addon to Freelancer. Its a universal 3D program which is easy to make plugins to, and has all the popular games formats alredy plugged in. It wasn’t made for Freelancer.

Don’t read me wrong here… FLAC is pretty awesome from what i’ve seen it do for others servers… I just feel it wrong to make money from modders/community’s in general…
However… don’t get me started on ms3d…. that’s just a plain wrought when there’s blender… and nothing for freelancer when almost every other format is well covered by some sort of free converter/program…

“Yeah, it’s pretty awesome to take the FLHook sourcecode, rewrite it in C#, add some nice features to it and sell it for money (without sharing anything).”
I’m sorry but you have no idea about FLAC from the statement above.
Firstly, I have access to the source code and it is not a rewrite of FLHook in any sense. As far as I can see it’s a full build from the ground up. It also is not all done in C#. The hooks and anti-cheat are C++, the user interface and plugin interface are C#.
Secondly, for some people to spend time on a project it costs them to do so. Eagle is a full time developer as far as I am aware, the same as myself, and time spent on one project takes time away from another project which may be a paying one, as well as time away from family. The donation that is required to obtain a license also contributes to the support he provided which was to a fairly professional degree.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that the scenario with FLAC is one that everyone should appreciate or agree with. I am saying that someone putting hard work into something and asking for recompense in doing so is not WRONG, it’s just different to the open source FLHook approach. I don’t think that it needs slandering either simply because the creator of a software package either wants or needs recompense not only for the work they do but their time and effort in supporting the software.
If you want to talk about it without slandering, and with an open mind, I’m happy to do so. If not, my comments end here.
Apologies to the original poster, this appears to be going off-topic. FriendlyFire is correct about the approach that FLAC takes to cargo pods for player ships.
