Brrr and wut wit TLR?

hmmm
why is it so hard for you to let a database that is not yours return to its original community?i mean the data was submitted to TLR and actually u are wrong with the statement that it is copyrighted to lancersreactor.com and that godaddy would hold the copyright.
only natural persons or companies can hold rights by law and in case of websites the owner of the domain holds the right on the data. Only that owner is allowed to hand over rights to the next owner. This has been done, from BP to mentalchaos to azza and finally to me.
This is btw. law in almost every country on this planet (china and north korea excluded).
Right now the FL archives violates the copyright laws, the data privacy law (in somewhat more than 20.000 cases) and several laws regarding property.
So actually we can continue to argue over it which might lead to unpleasant results or we agree to let this personal crap drop finally and think about what is good for FL.Is this possible or do we really have to go on this way?
1. You want that i dont bring up the past any longer? OK, you can have that. No such posts anymore here and on other sites.
2. In exchange I want that you stop bashing other FL sites including the SWAT Portal and TLR.
3. You want that I allow links to TSP and place links to it on my sites. You can have that.
4. In exchange I clearly want that the FL databases that you currently host gets removed. It will become part of the current TLR site where it will serve the purpose to bring new and old FL players to the Freelancer community. You will be able to access all the data that you can access now and even more as I am able to restore even more.
Right now you only use that archive to read on old threads, I will use it to bring old and new players to FL. Players that might end up on your servers. If you dont want to raise the daily freelancer player base by 50 players or 100 or more then just say it.This is the deal i want to offer. A deal where no side does loose something but both can win.
So like LS said can we finally “STOP” it? -
Ahem, stack overflow, you want some bananas too Wodka?
AS FAR AS I CAN REMEBER…. That means many years before, when the TLR comes down, I talked about the data with BP, and hope TLR Team (As far as i can remember, FriendlyFire is a team member too, so that is reasonable to have TLR data) can keep the data to the public. Now the data is publicable, i think that was enough.
OP, you need know, even you have the data, you cannot get TLR back to glow, only a real new modder will going to search those data. So you need to find other way, like make a player mainly community. And TSP is dev mainly community. PS. forget the GoDaddy…They’re impossible to hold to the data.
For my poor muscle of digestion and english, i still cannot figure out why TLR breaked. All things looks alright, and they still looking for donate for new server, some guys want to add new subjects, and all is crashed rapid…
-
…. oh my … OP doesn’t only think, he the one and only Hero of Freelancer,
but also top lawyer for international copyright.I wonder how he can find time, to post so much ‘funny’ things here (and there),
while he is supposed to earn a 750 bucks an hour
25 hours 8 days a week.It’s so fascinating!
-
Well, OP, your deal sucks. The fact that you think you own all that content of hundreds of different modders over the years is quite hilarious. Some one is just wee bit narcissistic. Even better is the belief that you can singlehandedly increase the amount of players playing daily by 50-100 just by being able to host the database solely…lol.
You’re seriously going to spend hundreds of dollars per hour for some very shaky claims? This would be thrown out of court so quickly, the judge would probably laugh at you on the way out.
-
I dont understand why you insist on us taking down the archive. Wouldnt it be better for the holy FL community that the archived posts are available at two locations, creating redundancy in case a site fails?
Next thing you will ask for are the downloads. And then, you will ask for any content ever originally released on TLR to be removed here.
You sure have only the benefit of the whole FL community in mind, I’m dead sure.

i have to agree. there is noone who would ever deny OP to host the same contents or the original TLR contents on TLR. but there is really no reason to take them down from here. many newcomers still learn on them here. if he doesn’t want that, what is he after then? the more crafts we have for modding purposes, the more intensively we can concentrate them each in a certain category. who knows, maybe one day many of us will work together on a project instead of people like OP or gibbon or me, who work alone. isn’t that logical? efficiency?
-
OP, I’m sorry but we cannot abide to your demands. You are asking us to take down the archive when we have the right to host it. If you don’t trust us, you can always think about how an actual lawsuit would go.
I’ll point two things that make me feel we have as much right as you do:
-
You say bp gave Mental Chaos the site. In fact, Eraser gave the domain to Mental Chaos, and I believe he gave the database to Louva who ended up giving it to Turion and then it ended up in Mental Chaos’s hands somehow. Thing is, legally Bargib was the owner of TLR (he’s the founder and never actually left the administration team, did he?), so that doesn’t give you any sort of exclusivity or claim over the database. Its history is very, very convoluted and no clear owner can actually be determined.
-
During the time where we were involved on the TLR staff but had already founded The Starport, Mental Chaos willingly gave us the database and gave us the permission to host it if we could crack it open and give him back. Which Worfeh did. So MC gave us the right to host the database, and got back a working database in exchange. Fair dealing.
In essence, the point is that you DO have a claim over the TLR database, but you do not have an exclusivity claim over it. AzzA didn’t even have the TLR database for a long time. Why else would he have tried to crawl our site to get it?
If you really wanted to make a move towards a positive future, you’d waive all your exclusivity claims and allow the TLR database to fall into the public domain so that anyone can host it (without the passwords, mind you). You’re the only one threatening to sue people who don’t comply. Any other person who might have ownership claims is already making it available or has not raised any opposition. Hence, the ball’s in your camp, OP.

no w0dk4
keep the downloads, demanding them would damage TSP aswell as other FL sites and thats not in my interesti just want the the hosting of that database transfered to TLR as the rights aswell as the responsibilty (a website owner also has duties regarding the data) over that database has been transfered to me.
I already told you that you dont need to destroy that database and that if I fail with TLR you can bring it up again. You have no loss at all.

No, I attribute those numbers to an 8 year old, outdated space simulator game.Yes! Without a doubt the most profound statement in this thread. Everything else attributed to freelancers demise is just background noise. In fact, I kinda like this thread, it’s like rehab, slapping OP in the face with a rotten trout is just a bonus!

So, In the FOX Drama of this, I’m thinking Mel Gibson to play OP.
Either that or Paris Hilton.Sushi will be Brad Pitt, for his devilish good looks.

This would be thrown out of court so quickly, the judge would probably laugh at you on the way out.We are not in america or any other country where this would be the case^^ TLR is now hosted in germany thus applying german rules and regulations and mostly in germany the one who lost on court pays the bills - if he didnt had an assurence - what in case of site holders most people have (if not then they are brave ones).

OP, there is good tool http://www.httrack.com/ - and all copy of arhives at your hdd :)) Please do not loop people about it

Obviously not.

why would i need such a tool when i have the original databases which are currently being integrated into TLR again?
either we can make a deal and stop this misery once and forever or we continue this crap with all its consequences (which of course is not your problem as cheeseontoast is the guy which is responsible for the data hosted here)
look
agree to the deal and all troubles between our communities are gone, furthermore you can take benefit from all the work we do at TLR
