Continuously unable to connect to a Freelancer Server
-
The problem isn’t with IP v6.
I have IP v6 enabled on my Vista install and I can still connect fine.
The only issues I have with IP v6 is if I want to host a server.Double check your firewall settings. Make sure you’re letting freelancer.exe in and out on the correct ports. I can’t remember the exact ports required but I have 2300 - 2304 (both TCP and UDP) enabled for traffic in and out.
I’m also running FL in Compatibility Mode, (XP SP2).
Failing that, double check your Router and ensure you’ve got the ports above available on that device too.
Hope this helps.

Ran in compatability mode already. Will try others later.

Still doesn’t work after clearing it through firewall, checking update, admin mode, etc. I pretty much give up, lol.

You could try to move the folder or reinstall it outside of Program Files or Program Files (x86). Right are a little strange sometimes inside these 2 folders.
You could try a malware scan with MalwareBytes AntiMalware (free for this use).
Could you try to connect from someone else web connection, to check if your problem is OS/soft or network related ?
-
I have everything updated for vista, and my Internet is good. Could just be the folder, can I just move it to like my documents?
-
No. You’ll need to uninstall your current installation. Then install to your documents folder. It is a good way to avoid all the UAC nonsense and will cause you far less problems with FLMM.
-
So just uninstall/reinstall to documents, and do I need to redownload the server workaround?
-
Yes, or alternatively edit the following file:
\exe\freelancer.ini
find the [ListServer] section and use the following code:
[ListServer]
hostname = gun.fllistserver.com
port = 2300Cheers,

I tried that, it displayed servers but not anyone in them. Am I supposed to do it a different way, like erase everything or just edit hostname?
-
Just edit the hostname, make sure the port is correct and in theory, job done. Clearly however this is not the case for you.
What firewall are you using?
-
I am using McAfee Antivirus. Sorry for the late response, I was moving and packing.
-
Also, is your ISP Orange in the UK? I know several people who are unable to play FL on at least some of their network. There is a solution for this, if this is the case.
-
I live in the US, but is there a possibility that my ISP could be what you mentioned?

Im new here and am having similar issues trying to connect to my lan (local server for my son and I) server. The IP is an IPv6 protocol address, and the usual “…taken longer than expected…” pop up appears whenever either of us try to connect. We are running windows 7 and IPv6 is the problem. However I don’t think disabling IPv6 is a good idea at this time.
Here’s some info on IPv6 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPv6
Seems to me completely disabling IPv6 is using a hammer when what ya need is a pair of tweezers. For me and My setup here the potential downside especially as the protocol is in such large scale transission since June 6th I believe, would be too great.
Whats More I have run older software without the need to disable IPv6, I don’t mind port forwarding for a game, or many other similar situations, those are gaming and they happen. But disabling a protocol that the entire world is switching to as we speak is too much for me.
I am no programmer and I do not pretend to know the difficulties in what IPv6 support would entail, and I AM thankful to all those people who make something like Freelancer still fun and available to all of us especially in mods like discovery. However I cannot run a server even for my local network and the cost to do such In my case at least is too great.
So I find a nice low populated server and my son and I play, we have just as much fun as we would if not more so and my IPv6 is still running. I can’t help but wonder though, how so many older or same age games run without disabling IPv6.

Alright, sorry for digging up an old thread, but, I found out that the “Connecting to global server” message at the top right of the screen might be preventing me from playing online. Could this be a problem?
-
Of course! U dont ping servers.
If mod doesnt help (any) than Global Server workorund might help.
Also check what antivirus you have, some are not compatible.
Next check firewall and allow FL to pass.Good luck
