3DSMax to CMP question
-
Sorry you didn’t get a response…
I don’t know much about the CMP exporter for Max, sorry.
But if you export your CMP with it (if the Max exporter does a good job of it), then you can also save the original .3ds model file and import it into Milkshape, and then export only the materials into a .mat file quite easily.
The Milkshape .mat exporter works fine.
You can see whether it is successful by opening the model’s .cmp and .mat files in Hardcmp or whatever else you like that can do it, or just put it in the game and test.
Let us know how you get on with the Max exporter, I will be interested as the Milkshape ones do give occasional problems?

Ya, thanks for reply
I always used milkshape, just wanna to try this way, maybe it is faster and better, also it can automaticly make wireframes.
Ok, it’s good idea to rename materials in Max itself and make in MS only the mat, i’ll try, thanks a lot.
Models exported directly from Max through this stuff cannot be displayed in HardCMP, so I also will have to learn how to place hards in UTF Editor.
Yes, i’ll tell you how it goes when i try. -
I’m worried that you say models exported with the Max exporter don’t load into HardCMP?
Is this Sushi’s exporter, maybe he can help?

There is a 3Ds Max Mat Exporter: http://forge.the-starport.net/projects/maxcmpexport/repository/show/maxMATExporter
But I dont know where you can find a combiled binary I’m afraid…
The link here is dead: http://the-starport.net/freelancer/forum/viewtopic.php?topic_id=3747&forum=9&post_id=43697#forumpost43697
If I find the time, I’ll go over the 3ds max exporters again and compile them and write a short documentation on how to use all the stuff.

That would be great, w0dk4

Just for reference, I found a tutorial video from Sushi about it for how to do LODs:
