It is possible (second image). But how? Or didn’t I look right?
(Before you ask, no, setting the loot_preference to caps only makes the leader of a patrol tractor loot.)

Hey Gold_Sear, I’m not sure if you’re still looking for an answer but try poking around in state_graph.db - leaders have some states set that escorts don’t, which allows them to loot. The same states set on the escorts will get you what you’re looking for.

I have some more detailed notes on my old machine at home that I’ll try to pull up later tonight. Hopefully I remember and don’t just leave you hanging…

The state_graph dictates state changes from one state (row) to another state (column). In this case, for escorts to loot, we want to make sure the ESCORT graph has non-zero values for the 17th (Loot) column in the 11th (Formation) and 17th (Loot) rows. The above example uses 0.05 for both.

The notes shown here were before various AI struct reversals - however, they're still handy as they somewhat document some of the ways modifying values can affect the AI.
Feel free to use anything here, or just use Flak's state_graph.db file directly (make sure to update npcships, Flak uses different state_graph names than vanilla!).

Have you ever figured out what some of the less obvious states do, like Free flight, Delay, Strafe, Guide, etc., or are they just there because they’re valid AI states in other contexts?

Not really, sadly. For the longest time I just used guess-and-check numbers without knowing for sure what was what - the notes shown in the full file linked above were solely from observations made. (It wasn’t until a few years ago that M0tah pointed out to me that the graph corrosponded with adoxa’s reversed Personality struct floating around here somewhere)

I can say bumping up the Strafe column seems to help them actually strafe more, and in general bumping up transitions out of things like Idle seems to help keep them more active. Unfortunately it’s been quite a while since I’ve actually worked with any of this.

When we were messing around again back in 2014/15 (for the first time in… years) M0tah found a native function within FL to reload the state graph, and implemented it into FLHook. It was pretty handy for messing around. Unfortuantely the source in Flak’s repo seems a bit out of date, but there should be a copy somewhere…
