Evening folks - where can I find a listing of msg IDs and voice profiles? I have found listings for everything from toilet paper <jk>to ammo but nothing for sounds/voices.

Got it - thank you for the info. Apparently I had faction corruption in one or more save files. If only I could easily determine which save file was the evil-doer.

Went back to saves frrom 2-3 days ago - no joy. So I’m starting from scratch <sigh>.

Is there a utility that will let me read the FLSpew.txt file and hopefully break it down into readable chunks?

I’m having frequent CTDs caused by the content.dll in Discovery Freelancer 4.87.0 and the FLSpew.txt file seems to have lots of information that I could use to debug or at least get a better idea of whats causing my crashes.

Sorry for the absence folks - I had a Vt (ventricular tachycardia) that left me, or rather my heart, running in full afterburner (194 bpm heart rate) for four days. You’ve never lived until you been shocked by a full blown defib unit. But it works, cardiac inversion I think the process is called - this time my heart inverted on the first shock. I slept for 24 hours straight after that.

Now I’m back home and raring to play Freelencer. Are there any really good single-player mods still hanging about out there. I don’t have unfettered access to the web (shared internet) - for now I’m not totally in love with Open Single Player, but if you have good suggestions for when I reach that stage - post’em.

@Timmy51 - you are correct the docking ring is what I meant. As food for thought, my crash occurs the very instant my ship enters the docking gates in the short video thet runs everytime you dock on a planet.

@adoxa - thank you for all the little proggies you wrote and most importantly, kept. I’m still fighting with JFLP _1_2 patch - only the JFLP series of patches does this to me. I will also give your your ini suggestion a shot - do I really have to put the modded ini back if the old one works?

I’m going to head off and kill some bad guys, then go to bed - maybe.

Evening all,

I have a quick question that will hopefully solve a problem I’ve had for days.

Juni and I get to Sprague, kill off the Rhinelanders and make our break for the gates. Juni tells me to go first and literall as soon as I enter the gate I’m back on my desktop.

I run Vista 64 and the Mysteries of the Nebula SP mod. 3D sound is unchecked and I was looking for ideas for where to start looking for the problem and a possible solution or two.

Any ideas? As always thanks for your help…

Well, I ended up going with Star Traders version and so far so good. I’m not sure what the problem is with JFLP and my Freelancer install, but I have to have the text so… It’s probably an ini issue or something else easy to fix, but I’ve no way to track down the problem. So it’s no JFLP for now.

Well, I spoke too soon. Every version of JFLP that I tried ended up replacing all of my ingame text with the following text - “IDS?”. Without JFLP everything is hunky dory - with it see above.

Any ideas?

Thank you both very much - done and done. Now all I need is to decide which/ whether I want to play one big mod or a few (or more).

By the way, I stumbled on several posts dealing with installing JFLP.exe.bin. The whole process including the various options might be worthy of a sticky.

Patching a New Install of FL

Good morning! I am returning to Freelancer after nearly 5 years in the wilderness of Elder Scrolls and X games. I have lots of questions, but first I want to put together a solid basic install. What are the patches that I need to install and in what order? I am only going to be using SP or OSP modes of play (if that’s relevent).

• Adv_fl_patch_1_4.zip or

• UnofficialFLSPPatch1.4.zip

• MS 101 Patch.exe

• FL SDK v1.5b 29950314.exe

and anything else I might need - I already have FLMM and FL Scan, but uninstalled as yet.

I’m also an eye-candy freak, but not at the expense of playability, so I’m collecting candy

mods as well.

Weird it turns out that something (the mod maybe?) keeps changing my screen resolution from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 which is my Windows resolution.

Not sure why that would be, but hey, I got it fixed for now.

Thanks again folks - once again into the breech. I did a fresh Freelancer install; then installed JFLP; then installed Phoenix 1.05 with OSP. I’ve been playing happily ever since. A camper of much more happiness indeed.

I am having a few graphics issues though and they are mod related - I never had the problem in vanilla. But they are intermitent so I can live with them. The most irksome is the usually small graphic that appears when some one is hailing you - like ground control or the police looking for contraband. Instead of a 1"x1" image popping up - the image fills my screen. No other graphics are effected.

It hasn’t impacted my playing, but it is irritating. Newest drivers installed already, but I haven’t unchecked 3d sound. I don’t see how that could effect video, but I’ll give it a try.

Thanks Sabatino - if I read you correctly the best, maybe the only way, to play one of the big mods is:

• do a fresh install of Freelancer;
• do not install any patches because they are already included in the mod;
• and for OSP stay away from the story line if it’s even still there.

I think I’ll finish up the original story line then start trying the mods.

I play single-player because I have limited internet access time. I have gotten 3 other folks reinterested in the game, but they are SP types as well. I have installed, uninstalled and
reinstalled Freelancer so many times that I have it down to just shy of 15 minutes for the whole 9 yards. (I know it’s all about me, me, me…)

That includes:

• Freelancer itself
• MS patch
• Freelancer QuickFix Patch 1.0c
• Jason’s Freelancer Patch v 1.0
• and verifying that my vanilla save games still work (at this point they do).

From this point on only HD Textures v 1.2 installs smoothly and doesn’t interrupt an existing SP game. But it doesn’t play with other mods at all. Not really a problem since most of the bigger mods have their own eye candy. And not playing well with other mods is fairly typical of all the mods I’ve tried so far. If it’s important to the conversation, I use FLMM 1.31 to install my mods. I have not had a single crash in vanilla.

• Do I need to install both community patches or does JFLP cover it all?

• What is the difference between SP and OSP? (besides an ‘O’)

• Does OSP allow me to ignore Juni’s nagging and play like I want to from the gitty-up?

• Or is OSP a way to continue to play after the story line is completed?

• Or is it a combination of the last 2 depending on the mod developer?

Herds of thank yous for your technical assistance and for keeping the game going. I wish there was more story line compatible SP mods, but since there’s not can I set up my own server and play multi-player mods on it? Just me and my many alternate personalities?

Well, how do you take a screenshot in this game? I’ve tried Print Screen and the game freezes for a second or two like it’s taking a shot, but no joy. And more importantly no screenshot. Do I need to add a line to the freelancer.ini or get a proggie that runs in the background or …?

If the Print Screen key works then where pray tell does it save the images to? If it’s relevent I’m running Vista 64 as my OS.

Gibbon, I downloaded v. 1.05 to install, but I understand (correctly I hope) that there is another version due out soon? I like what I see so far because I like exploring and trading with a fairly good sized dash of combat too.

One question though - will I have to start a new game when I install Phoenix and any future versions?

Thanks for all the information - now I have to single out which mod(s) play well in single player. A lot of the mods that I’ve found so far, plus a few of the ones you suggested, are multiplayer only so that pretty much puts them off to the side for a while. That still leaves several to sort through and that gives me choices - always a good thing.

Since the game doesn’t take very much time to reinstall if all else fails I can just whack it and reinstall the game. Hopefully though I can find a good fit for my gameplay interests, new places, better economic system, higher graphics quality, etc. without too much ado.

Well, my story is typical. I was cleaning out my storage area and ran across this jewel. Now it’s loaded on my PC and I’m itching to play. I am in single player mode for now, but if I get back into it I may be interested in multi-player.

I do however have a question or two, the most pressing of which is what mods do you recommend and do they play well together. I’m an old time Oblivion and Fallout freak so mods were my first thought.

The first mod/utility I downloaded was FLMM, of course, and HD textures to improve the graphics a bit.

I have Discovery 485; Phoenix 1.05; WTS; and Tekagi’s Treasure. I haven’t installed any of them yet though. My primary concern is which of these work with other mods and of course are there any other recommendations?
